Dr. Phinis Elwyn Lewis
Dr. Phinis Elwyn Lewis was born on September 18, 1934, in Baylor Hospital in Dallas Texas. He died August 28, 204 at the age of 89 years 11 months. His mother grew up in East Dallas not far from the fairgrounds and the Cotton Bowl. Her family was a member of the First Assemblies of God where she played a piano as a teenager. His father was raised in Tulsa Oklahoma, where his family attended Assemblies of God. And he was called minister as a teenager.
Elwyn was the first born of Phinis A. Lewis and Cleo Lewis. He attended first grade in Denison Texas where his father was Pastor. He attended second, third, and fourth grade in Pasadena Texas where his father was Pastor. He attended fifth grade through high school in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from High school, from Southwestern High school a private Christian School in Waxahachie, Texas. He graduated from college at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree. Later he earned a Master of Education degree in Christian School Administration, from Azuza Pacific University in California, and a Doctor of Theology degree from International Seminary in Florida and a Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling from Vision University in California.
Elwyn was a Senior Pastor 26 years and a staff pastor for an additional 10 years. He was in the Ministry for 72 years. He was in ministry with his wife Mavis during the latter years as a missionary teacher and was a mentor of people in ministry, and ordained them.
Elwyn was also known as Grandfather and loved to watch his family grow and supported all their activity which involved all areas of Sports and other activities.
Elwyn, was preceded in death by his wife Mavis Lewis, parents Phinis A. and Cleo Lewis, his two sister Regina Lewis and Colene Shadley and her husband Edward. He is survived by his Sons Phillip Lewis and daughter- in- law Elaine, Lonnie Davis and daughter- in- law Cindy, and daughter Kimberly (Davis) Cummins and son- in- law Herbert Cummins. Grandchildren: Jay Davis and wife Roxanne, Shane Nance and wife Amy, Joshua Nance and wife Brooke, Kailey Cummins, Kaileb Cummins and wife Bethany, Rachel (Lewis) Barkar and husband Ashish, Sara (Lewis) Dexter and husband Thomas. Great Grandchildren: Trulee Dexter, Oliver Dexter, and Jaysen Barkar Katelyn (Nance) Kroesch and husband John, Peyton Nance, Haydn Davis, Kendall Nance, Kylie Nance, Sequin Davis, Kayden Nance, Kolten Cutler, Braxton Cummins, and Kambrey Cummins Great-Great Grandchildren: Kinley Ann Kroesch and Karter Olivia Kroesch.
Elwyn will be greatly missed. He is with our Lord in Heaven; whole, healthy happy and complete. We are grateful for the time we had with him.
There will be a service in honor of Elwyn on Friday, September 6th 2024 starting at 10:00 A.M. and a visitation at 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581.
