Dorothy Tadema
Mother of five and loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy “Dotty” Elizabeth (Skarke) Tadema, 77, of Santa Fe, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, while gardening at her home. An authentic, tough, and beautiful daughter of Central Texas farmers, Walter and Elizabeth Skarke, Dorothy spent her early adulthood working as a nurse before evolving into a full-time mom and later becoming an attentive elder care worker. She will be remembered most for her Catholic faith, contagious smile, comical gifts, colorful fashion sense, intimate knowledge of local plant life, bloodhound instincts for bargain-shopping, and unwavering devotion to her boisterous family life.
Dorothy was born on July 24, 1943, and raised in Lavaca County, Texas. She is survived by loving husband, Klaas Tadema III; daughters Alicia Tadema and husband Robert Young, Taanya McNeil and husband Travis, and Shari Tadema and husband Peter Marsh; sons Klaas Tadema IV and wife Tara, and Nathan Tadema and wife Dinniah; sister Carolyn Burger and husband Phil; grandchildren Veronica and Rosalind, Jacob and Rainey, Pepper and Clementine, Skylar and Klaas V, and Atticus and Winston.
A Rosary will be held for Dorothy on Saturday, June 19th, at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock, Texas. Burial will take place on Sunday, June 20, at 12:15 PM at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas. Dorothy loved plants and flowers and would welcome them at her service.
She is missed dearly.
Sincere condolences to Klaas and his family at the loss of his dear wife Dotty. She was a friend to so many of us who knew her. A woman of faith and loved her family. I will miss her as I know she will be missed by many. God’s blessings, peace, and consolation to the entire Tadema Family.
I will be unable to attend Dotty’s funeral Mass, but I will be keeping Klaas, Dotty, and her family in my thoughts and prayers.
With deepest sympathy

She is one of my favorite people. I’m so sorry and send hugs and prayers.
Our sincere condolences to Klaas and the entire family. Dorothy was a sweet, lovely lady, and we will miss her so much. Only 3 weeks ago we had a nice visit with her and Klaas at our grandson’s Klaas V’s, graduation celebration. I am sure God will welcome Dorothy into his heavenly home.
No words can help to lift your burden Klaas and family, but wanted you to know that we will keep all of you in our prayers. We loved Dottie so much, she was one of the sweetest and kindest people we’ve ever known. Love you all, Tom and Pat Lisch
Dorothy was like a second mom to me growing up. I’ve always remembered the good times and the lessons she taught me. All my love in this hard time. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. May God give you the peace that you seek.
