Dorothy Louise Hanlon

Dorothy Louise Hanlon passed away on February 5, 2017 at her home in Nassau Bay, Texas at the age of 105. She was born November 6, 1911 in Galveston, Texas to Jennie and Harold Hardy. She graduated from Ball High School and worked at the American National Insurance Company until her marriage to Thomas Gerald Hanlon on May 8, 1937. Upon marriage, Dorothy assumed the job of homemaker and devoted wife and mother, whose main focus was the well being of her children. She was a volunteer in scouting, as a room mother, P.T.A. and various activities in which her children were involved. Even though Dorothy was born, raised and spent the first five years of marriage in Galveston, she moved to different places as her husband was transferred in his job with Amoco Oil. She moved to Destrahan, LA and then five years later to New Orleans, LA; five years later to Texas City; four years later to New York City; three years later to Chicago and four years later back to Texas City, where they built a home in Nassau Bay. She was a resident of Nassau Bay since 1968. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, cooking, entertaining, dancing, gardening and traveling. She traveled to all 50 states and many European countries. She volunteered at Christus St. John Hospital when it was first opened. She was a parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Nassau Bay since 1968. She was an auxiliary member of The Legion of Mary, attended weekly adoration and washed and ironed the church linens on a regular basis. She also embroidered baby bibs for new mothers at St. Paul. Dorothy’s strength of character, optimism, positive outlook and generosity were an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years and her son, Thomas Gerald Hanlon, Jr. of Kenner, LA.; her sisters Zenia V. Hardy and Ethel M. Hardy of Galveston and Nassau Bay; and her brothers Harold Hardy of LaMarque and Dr. S. Baron Hardy,M.D. Of Houston. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Louise Hanlon of Wheeling, IL; daughter-in-law Susan Hanlon of Kenner, LA; her niece Janice Sorabella of Waldwick, NJ; her grandchildren Jennifer Midkiff (Robert) of Metairie, LA; Dr.Kristen Greene, Ph.D (Scott) of Tallahassee, FL and Kevin Hanlon (Kreslyn) of Madison, MS; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Samantha Midkiff; Cameron, McKenna and Peyton Greene; and Thomas Hanlon. Pallbearers are Robert Midkiff, Jacob Midkiff, Kevin Hanlon, Cameron Greene, Dr. Robert Sorabella, M.D. and Daniel Patulski.
The Family will receive friends on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 5-7:00pm with a Rosary at 7 o’clock at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573. A Mass will follow on Tuesday at 1 o’clock at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18223 Point Lookout Drive, Nassau Bay, Texas 77058. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas .

  2. Dottie had a beautiful life and was well talen care of by her loving family. She was a wonderful person. I remember her and Gerald and am thankful for her kindness to me when I was at Loyola. Much love to the family, Ann Satterlee
