Don M. Grove, III

Don M. Grove, III “also known as Ace”, 67, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 in Madison County. He was born in Galveston on July 9, 1950 to Jackie and Don Grove Jr.
He graduated from Ball High School in 1968. He then attended the Police Academy and joined the Galveston Police Department. Ace retired from the Galveston Police Department as a Lieutenant in 1997, and then the real work started the “day his watch broke”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, dominoes and cooking on his BBQ pit.
He is preceded in death by his father, grandson Jeremy David Dahl, and sons-in-law Kevin Shotwell and Gene Creel.
Ace is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Ann Grove; mother Jackie Grove, daughters: Christy Shotwell, Juliet Dawson and husband Wade, and Dawn Grove; brothers: Mickey J. Grove and wife Judy and Gary D. Grove; grandchildren; Robert E. “RJ” Alexander and his wife Raychel, Rachele Hutchinson and husband James, Paul Alexander, Steven Hooker, and Nicholas Grove; great grandkids, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended adopted family and friends.
A visitation will be on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Crowder Funeral Home with Rev. Olan Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
Pallbearers will be RJ Alexander, Paul Alexander, Steven Hooker, Nicholas Grove, Todd Steffen, Wade Dawson, James Hutchinson, Mickey Grove, Jr., Lee J. Jones and Charles Hedges.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Knotts, Bill Rankin, Russel Noel, E.G. Wiley and Galveston Police Department.
A special thanks to Madisonville and North Zulch Fire Departments, EMS and Sheriff Department.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you make donations to ALS Association, Alzheimer’s Association or the Charity of your choice.
