  5. I had the privilege of knowing and working with Merril during my 14 years at Arthur Andersen in the Audit Practice (1980-1994). I worked with him on a special Audit & Tax project of the late Josephine Abercrombie’s businesses. Merril was a Southern Gentleman and always a pleasure to be around. He was smart with a disarming Deep South Charm and Wit – a sharp class act professional. Merril was also a member of Andersen’s “Mississippi Mafia” recruited from Ole Miss and Mississippi State into the Houston Office in the 1970s and 1980s, which also included a few brothers like Merril & Mark, the Harlan and Walker brothers and many others I had the pleasure of meeting and working with during my years at Andersen and beyond. After I left Andersen in 1994, Merril was always supportive of my business and of great counsel from time to time when I needed his advice. I will miss Merril and know the Cummings Family will also. May you all experience the peace and comfort that only comes from our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ through His Holy Spirit.

  6. My heart is sad. I worked with Merrill at Arthur Andersen. He was the first friendly face that greeted me back in 1982. Such a lovely person. I was also able to be his assistant and he was the kindest, most pleasant person I ever worked with. I pray that your faith will sustain you during this time.

    Till we meet again Merrill!
