Daniel Alan Nelson

Daniel Alan Nelson passed away July 18, 2020 at Victory Lakes UTMB Hospital. He is remembered as a loving, devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Nelson. His parents; Bob and Marie Nelson. His 5 children; Adam Nelson, Cassie Hurst, Charlissa Mehri, Zach Nelson, and Chase Nelson, and 9 grandchildren; Charlotte, Hailey, Jonas, Emmett, Kayleigh, Abbie, Lizzy, Thatcher, and Leah. He also leaves behind 5 siblings: Jim Nelson, Steve Nelson, Robin Money, Anne Johnson, and Mike Nelson.
Dan was born on July 18, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the second of six children. He grew up loving to sing, act, play baseball, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a Navy Veteran, graduating from Annapolis June 4, 1975, serving in the Navy until 1985. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until 1994.
Dan has worked for the United Space Alliance since 1999, and helped train hundreds of Astronauts, Cosmonauts, and other International Space Station crew members. He was passionate about space travel and advancements within space exploration and loved sharing that passion with his friends and family.
Above all Dan was a devoted family man. He loved taking road trips with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he dedicated his time to serving our Savior, Jesus Christ, by serving those around him as often as possible. He was a master at Dad-jokes, loved to sing and garden, and he loved to watch the Astros.
A Memorial Service will be held for immediate family on Monday, July 27th at 10am CST at Crowder Funeral Home in Webster. The service will be streamed at the link provided for those that are unable to attend in person. A graveside service will be held at Houston Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1:30 CST.

  9. I am sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. He was such a wonderful person. He mentored me at work for a short while, and I know he enjoyed teaching. Even after I transferred to a different position, he always had a smile and a joyful greeting when we passed each other on campus. He was a true gentleman and will be missed.

  11. he was a awesome grandfather we always called him poppie. he always liked to mess with us my little sister is only one year old so she won’t even remember him. we just have to stay faithful in the lord, that’s what he would want us to do.
