Curtis Glenn
Curtis Glenn, 98, passed away on April 13, 2020, League City, Texas of natural causes. He was the widower of Gythe Kirsten “Tutter” Glenn. They were married on March 8, 1947 in Copenhagen, Denmark. After 62 years of marriage, Tutter preceded him in 2009.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, 1921, he emigrated to the United States in 1932 to Brooklyn, New York. Enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps at the outbreak of WWII. Member of the IX Troop Carrier Command, he participated in the invasions of Egypt-Libya, Tunisia, Sicily, Rhineland-Normandy. He was awarded Basic Parachutist Badge, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal w/Bronze Star. In 1944 he was recruited by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) stationed in London, England. At wars end he transitioned to Central Intelligence Group (CIG) precursor to Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). After graduating from Wagner College in 1951, he returned to the Central Intelligence Agency, serving as an Intelligence Officer in Europe, Head Quarters Langley, Virginia, and South East Asia-Vietnam. Upon retirement from the CIA as a Senior Intelligence Officer after 31 years of service, he enjoyed his children, grandchildren, reading, writing, following politics and caring for his beloved Tutter. In 2018 he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal as a surviving member of the OSS. The organization was headed by General “Wild” Bill Donovan who was also awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and Distinguished Service Cross in WWI. The men and women who served with the OSS were noted to have performed “heroically and valiantly in their role defeating the Axis powers of WWII.”
He is survived and missed by his children and their spouses, Susan Robeck & Stephen Robeck, Stephan P. Glenn & Charlene Glenn, Loraine Goeller & Jimi Goeller, Daniel A. Glenn & Leslie Glenn; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The formal funeral services and interment will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia in the fall of 2020.
