Creed “Taylor” Click

Creed “Taylor” Click, a lifelong resident of Hitchcock, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Just shy of his 90th birthday, his strength and resilience shone through until he was called to his eternal home by his Heavenly Father.

Born on November 19, 1934, in Hitchcock, Texas, Taylor was the middle child of eight siblings, raised by Jack Julian Click and Esther Tacquard Click. The family of ten exemplified hard work, dedication, and faithful service.

A proud graduate of Hitchcock High School in 1953, Taylor’s love for sports was evident through his outstanding skills on the field. His talent earned him a recruitment offer from the Detroit Tigers after high school. During his younger years, he met Jamie Holder, the love of his life, also from Hitchcock, and they were united in marriage. After a brief tenure at the Amoco refinery, Taylor transitioned to the U.S. Postal Service, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring, all while raising a family of three children.

Taylor’s passion for sports endured throughout his life. He coached baseball and volunteered with numerous organizations, including the Hitchcock Fire Department, the Hitchcock Education Foundation, the Galveston County Appraisal District, and the Hitchcock Heritage Society. He also worked part-time at James Crowder Funeral Home and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Texas City. His commitment to his community was evident in every aspect of his life. He was honored as Premier Citizen of the Year in 2016 by the Hitchcock Chamber of Commerce.

In retirement, Taylor and Jamie enjoyed traveling, particularly on cruises, and cherished family celebrations with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for baseball never waned; he remained an avid Houston Astros fan, never missing a game and staying up-to-date with the players’ names and stats, even in his later years.

Taylor is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Jamie Click; son, Jim Click; daughter, Joni Click Benard (Ronnie); and son, Jack Click (Cheree). He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Danielle Click, Dustin Click, Candace Wheeler (Chris), Corey Click (Kristi), RJ Benard (Hilda), Justin Benard (Tarin), and Maddy Click; and 11 great-grandchildren: Kenadee, Zoey, Taylor, Cade, Callen, Karlie, Brayden, Brody, Bailey, DJ, and AJ. Taylor is also survived by two siblings, JoAnn Click Robinson (Harry) and Harry Click (Earlene).

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Cindy Riddick officiating. Taylor will be laid to rest at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hitchcock Heritage Society at 8005 Barry Avenue, Hitchcock, Texas, 77563.

  2. I am sorry for the loss of y’all’s father. After losing my own father, I know how heartbreaking it can be to lose your beloved father. As a father, I know he would not want you to lanquish in sadness; but to fill your hearts with the memories of all the good times. Blessings to your family during this difficult time.

  5. Mr. Click was a pillar in the community when my brother and I were growing up back in the 60s and 70s. To the entire family, along with all those who miss him most, may you know God’s matchless grace and mercy in a very special way……… Matthew 11:28 – 30.
