Christos Katerinakis
Christos Katerinakis (69) went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2019 after struggling to overcome his injuries sustained from a tragic accident.
Christos was born on August 1, 1950 in Crete, Greece to Annivas and Niki Katerinakis (who preceded him in death). He lived a life on the high seas for the better part of his adult life after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Greek Merchant Marine Academy. His life on the ships took him to the ranks of Chief Engineer and later to land based operations in the ship yard. Later, he would take a job at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center working as a Chief Engineer for facility management for a better part of 30 years.
Chris always dreamed of opening a Greek Deli in Houston. He began his dream with a business known as C&C Imports. This would later blossom into what those in the Clear Lake area knew as Greek Deli Café & Imports. He brought his parent’s recipes to life in America and gave the Bay Area a taste of the daily home cooking from Crete for almost 15 years. When his renal failure became too much for him, he decided to sell the deli and focus on taking care of himself.
Christos took pride in his faith and was a founding member of St. John The Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Webster, TX. He could be seen volunteering his time at the annual Greek Festival, participating in AHEPA events and scholarships, and helping further the Greek community here in the local area.
Christos is survived by his wife, Rena Blandon and their son George; his children from his first marriage to Debbie (who preceded him in death), Nicola and Chris Katerinakis, granddaughter Guadalupe, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews still residing in Greece.
While Christos’ life was cut tragically short, he said when the time came, he would be ready. It is our hope and belief in the everlasting life that gave Christos comfort knowing this was simply the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next. May his memory be eternal.
