Charlette Darryl “Punkie” Miller
Mrs. Charlette Darryl “Punkie” Miller 82 peacefully left this earth life on her terms June 30, 2022, after an extended illness and one more visit to the hospital! She was surrounded by many family members who had the blessing of one last visit and a final goodbye!
Charlette was born on March 06, 1940, to Charles B. and Mary W. (Jefferies) Harper in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was shortly thereafter affectionately given the nickname “Lil’ Punkin” by her daddy C.B which later transpired to her lifelong name Punkie!
Punkie attended Capitol Hill High School graduating in 1958 carrying her firstborn child. She married K. Denton, Jr. and started a life and family together. She quickly became a devote and proud mother of four children, one boy and three girls by age 22.
As life unfolded and to make ends meet for her and her children, she found herself working as a daytime bartender at a club in northwest OKC. This is where she met Stan the Man Miller who swept her off her feet. Shortly thereafter they married and relocated to Clear Lake City, Texas with seven teenage children in tow to start a new life together. Punkie spent the next 46 years in the same home they made together loving life and later caring for her ailing husband.
Shortly after arriving in Clear Lake Punkie went to work at Ft. Terry’s Outpost Tavern on Nasa Road 1 where she spent several years rubbing elbows with all the Locals, Astronauts and Johnson Space Center Elite! She later spent several years working in the medical field at a Doctor’s Office, the Clear Lake Hospital and the Breast Diagnostic Center in Webster, Texas. She loved her life in Houston, Texas and embraced becoming a Texan. Punkie loved reading books, working crossword puzzles, games (especially Scrabble) and all sorts of hand crafting which later included crochet and quilting. She was a member of the Lakeview Quilters Guild in Nassau Bay, Texas for years where she made many friends and quilts along the way! Punkie was the Ole’ Lady in the Shoe on Facebook where she had over 600 friends and followers that admired and looked forward to her witty, inspirational daily posts!!
Punkie leaves to cherish her memory children Kermit “Andy” & Tanya Denton III of Norman, OK. Leslye Denton Garcia and her husband Angel of Austin, TX. Wade Miller and Kathy Miller Stadler and husband Sterling of OKC, OK. Her brother Buck & Lucinda Harper of Corinth, TX. Estranged Husband K & Sandy Denton Jr. of Broken Bow, OK, a Cool dozen Grandchildren Caroline, Casey, Cheyenna, Drew, Kathryn, Kyle, Nevada, Perseus, Valerie, Veronica, Victoria and Vivian and four Great Grandchildren w/ one more on the way! Along with an extended clan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Punkie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George Harper, William and Laurence Crandell, her sister Charlesa & Husband Jim Treat, SIL Nancy Croswell, husband Stan Miller, daughters Sheryl Miller, Lisa Sullivan and Lyla Coughlin and nephew Brian Andrew Denton.
Charlette will be placed in the wall alongside her husband of 40 years Stanley Eugene Miller at the Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston, Texas on Friday November 04, 2022. Celebration of Life Services will be held the next day Saturday November 05, 2022, at 11AM at the Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E Medical Center Blvd., Webster, Texas. Lunch will be served and many of Punkie’s Creations will be on display.
