Carolyn Powell
Carolyn (Cab) Burnette Powell went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 6, 2018 after a brief illness in Houston.
Carolyn, daughter of James Burnette Sr. and Ruth Ann McLean Burnette, was born on October 30, 1951 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She attended Natchitoches High School where she met her husband Ronnie. She later went on to nursing school and became a nurse – a source of great pride for her Cab and Ronnie were married on August 17, 1968 and moved to Ama, Louisiana. They raised their three girls in Ama and Luling before moving to Houston, Texas in 1988.
Cab was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She dearly loved her children and her grandchildren (who affectionately called her Mamoo) and loved and treated all of her nieces and nephews as her own. She adored her faithful dog Penny who she almost considered to be another one of her children. Cab was a very caring person who loved connecting and visiting with family and friends. Her many hobbies included reading, traveling, collecting thimbles, growing African violets, shopping and chasing grandkids.
She is survived by her husband and daughters Allison Powell Locke (Jeff), Jennifer Powell Robinson (Rick), Katie Powell Davis (Jeremy) and grandchildren, Peyton, Sydney and Nathan Locke, Luke Robinson and Kara Davis and many nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings are James Burnette Jr., Nancy Burnette, and Bill Burnette.
A memorial service will be held for family and close friends at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Clear Lake United Methodist Church located at 16335 El Camino Real in Houston. A reception will be held immediately after at the home of Allison Powell Locke at 17010 Chapel Park Court.
The family respectfully requests that flowers and plants not be sent and would prefer donations to Texas Right to Life, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, Carolyn was more of a sister to me than a first cousin. All the joyous times we had camping, two weddings and other visits we had together. With the good there is always the frustrations in life and that is what makes a family a family. Just know that she loved you all in her own way and that’s what made Carolyn, Carolyn. She is going to be greatly missed by everyone’s life she touched. We do already miss her, but her suffering is no more, she is in a place that we hope to be one day with all our family united together in the kingdom of Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We Love you All,
Debbie & Mike
Thank you for loving, encouraging, and supporting
Paul and Kaylyn for all these years.
There will be a void because we won’t be able to have those late
night talks anymore.
We will miss you. Rest In Peace, sister-in-law.
Brenda K. Powell
Pat and I are so very sorry to receive this news. It is our prayer that the Lord will bless and strengthen Ronnie and the family during this difficult time.
Vincent and I are very sad over the loss of Carolyn. She was like a second mother to him when he stayed with she and Ronnie after his bone marrow transplant. She was an angel then now she has her own angel wings. We love her and miss her so much. We all grieve in our own way. I know we have shed many tears over her passing.

Ya’ll have my most deepest sympathy. I was so saddened when I heard the news of Carolyn’s passing. May God give you the strength & comfort to get through this most difficult time. Wish I could be there to support you all. In case you don’t remember me, it’s been years but I use to baby sit for ya’ll when ya’ll were younger. I am Mr. Ernest & Shirley’s daughter. Ya’ll lived right in back of us when ya’ll were in Ama, La.
Ronnie,
Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. In case you don’t remember, I meet Carolyn in 1968 when you two moved to Hahnville and lived in River Park Apartemts.
May the Lord keep you close in this time of loss and bless and comfort you and your family.
