Carlie “Theresa” Smith
Carlie “Theresa” Smith, 89, of Texas City Texas passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 2, 1935 in Savannah, Georgia to Joseph and Hortense Sutton.
Theresa was a longtime resident of Texas City, but absolutely loved living in “San Antone” for over 30 years. She graduated from Texas City High School and was Homecoming Queen in 1952. Soon after she briefly attended Southwest Texas but earned her teaching degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
She adored her baby brother, Clyde, and cherished any time with him and his family. Her favorite times were when she could be in the Texas Hill Country at his home.
She loved her morning visits with her niece Sherry. She never tired of reminiscing through family memories-and there were many!!
She treasured all the children in her life-her grand and great grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. She filled her calendar with names and birthdays. Then as a birthday drew near, she would love riding her motorized cart to the dollar store to buy cards and little love gifts.
Theresa treasured friends throughout her entire life. She maintained friendships cultivated in childhood, young adulthood, through her teaching career and beyond! She often shared special memories made with them and they brought much joy into her life.
·Being the avid reader that she was, she loved browsing through the large printed books available at Moore Memorial Library. She always kept several by her nightstand.
Theresa thoroughly enjoyed 1970’s sitcoms and mysteries for the last 54 years… among her favorites were MASH, Murder She Wrote, and Gunsmoke.
Last but not least, she was an unusually enthusiastic Astros Fan. Not only did she know the plays, runs and scores….she knew details about each player’s life. Although it was fun to watch a game with her, the amount of information she would discuss about each player was phenomenal. Her favorite player was Altuve who she lovingly referred to as her second son.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Elizabeth Marie and brother Joseph John (Bubba). Theresa is survived by her loving family, two daughters: Dana Craig and husband Scott and Suzanne Broussard; Son Allen Smith and wife Jenell; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial Visitation will be held Monday May 6, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00am, at Mem 1 Church, 2021 29th Street North, Texas City, with a Memorial Service following at 11:00am, at the church, with Pastor Chon Pugh and Rev. Wayne Clement officiating.
We will miss Grams. We always loved when she was part of family gatherings. Every time we saw her, she was always so very sweet & kind. ❤️
I was so sorry to hear about the death of Theresa. She became a good friend through church. I found out she knew my husband before I did as she was a friend of his cousin in Texas City High School. We always had a lot to talk about. My health declined during Covid and could not attend church anymore and Theresa had her problems too but I will always consider her a good friend.
