Carl “Kenneth” Lewis
Carl “Kenneth” Lewis, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019.
Kenneth was born on July 19, 1937 in Donie, Texas at a whopping 10 pounds to parents John Horace Lewis and Lola Beatrice Archer. He attended Pasadena High School and enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving race cars, watching sports, woodworking, visiting the Texas Hill Country and all things cars.
Kenneth met Jenny Lea Greenwood in December 1971. They were set up on a blind date and enjoyed a seafood dinner together in Seabrook. They quickly fell in love and married at First Baptist Church in South Houston on July 1, 1972.
Kenneth was an extremely hard worker; he worked six days a week, for 50 years, at Mason Paint and Auto Supply. But even with the dedication to his career, he always made time for Jenny and their two daughters, Leigh Anne and Donna. Kenneth enjoyed taking the family to Astroworld, out on his boat, and on road trips to visit Jenny’s sister Linda in Fredericksburg. Kenneth would load a mattress into his covered truck bed where Leigh Anne and Donna would enjoy the 4-hour drive with snacks, blankets and talking to their parents in the cab via walkie-talkie. It’s one of their fondest holiday memories.
Kenneth also enjoyed woodworking and was a handy carpenter. He built furniture, a swing for their backyard, art tables for Leigh Anne and his mother-in-law, beautiful lattice work for Jenny’s garden, a window bench for Donna’s bedroom and a tree house for his grand-daughter Paige. Kenneth built these projects with skill and love. These are gifts his family members will always treasure.
Kenneth had six grandchildren. He enjoyed playing hide-and-go-seek, jumping on the bed, and playing in the treehouse with his grandkids. He attended numerous sporting activities and dance recitals. He was active, loving, supportive and always making his grandkids laugh.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Eldon Ray Lewis, Lois Chandler and Bobbie Nell Hinton. He is survived by his wife Jenny Lewis, his daughter Leigh Anne Marx and her husband Paul Marx, his daughter Donna Gilbreath and her husband Brett Gilbreath, his grandchildren Paige Gilbreath Millard and her husband Garner Millard, Audrey Gilbreath, Claire Gilbreath, Sadie Gilbreath, Nathan Marx, and Elise Marx, and his sister Johnnie Ruth Holmes.
The immediate family will have a private service in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family hopes that you would do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness in Kenneth’s name.
