Bruce Milton Smith, aged 75, of League City, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024. He was born on June 20, 1949, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. At an early age, his family relocated to Texas City, Texas, where Bruce excelled as both a football and track and field star. After graduating from Texas City High School in 1968, Bruce was recruited to play football for New Mexico State University.

Bruce loved golf, cruising, and athletics, and was known for his devotion to family and his kind and gentle nature. He married Diane Bowmer Werner on August 4, 1984, in Harris County, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared memories. Bruce’s strength of character and loving demeanor were especially cherished by his sons, Cris and Kyle, as well as his seven grandchildren: Collin, Kaley, Gavin, Tatum, Danae, Regan, and Rylie.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Laverne Smith of Santa Barbara, California, and Gloria Mills Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as well as his siblings, Kenneth, Cynthia, and Gary.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diane; his brother, Jeffrey, and his wife, Mary; sisters-in-law, Roxane and Paula; brother-in-law, Roger Hanson; his sons, Cris and his wife, Andrea, and Kyle and his wife, Blace; his grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members; as well as his beloved dogs, Lexus and Lola. Bruce’s legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.

The Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 1-2:00 pm following with a memorial service at 2pm, at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573.

  1. A great boss and mentor at K and M Tools. A friend for many years and fellow lover of the German shepherd dog breed. You will be deeply missed.

  2. I have known Bruce and Diane many years over 40, we had some great times at K&M Tools with the rest of the employees, great river tubing, camping, etc. Rest in peace Bruce, will see you again on the other side one day.
