Betty Sue Bonner Kahn
Betty Sue Bonner Kahn, 89, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2016 at her home in Seabrook. Born Sept 13, 1926 in Yoakum, Texas, the youngest child of Mr. & Mrs. E.H. Bonner, she was the valedictorian of Edinburg High School, captain of the Red & White Sergeanettes in 1943, and voted best dressed and best all -around girl. She received a full scholarship to Edinburg Jr College and then to The University of Texas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and graduated with honors in 1947. After a short career as a legal secretary with the Humble Oil Co in Houston, she met the love of her life and husband of 65 years, Jack Kahn. Together, they raised 4 children in Beaumont and Seabrook, travelled the world, and enjoyed many hours together on golf courses and tennis courts.
Pre-deceased by her husband Jack, she is survived by children Jack Kahn Jr. and wife Susy of Bryan, Susan Addy and husband Mike of Houston, Jon Kahn and wife Sylvi of Spring, and Wallace Kahn of Seabrook, grandchildren Keri Kahn Steinfeld and husband Josh of Colorado Springs, David Kahn of Reston, VA. and wife Christina , Kate Addy of Houston, and Elizabeth O’Donnell and husband Brad of Austin, great-grandchildren Avery and Brooklyn Steinfeld, and sister Marjorie Davidson of Houston.
She was totally dedicated to her husband and children, spending many selfless hours, whether it was camping, motor-homing, little league games, dance recitals, or sporting events of any flavor. Nothing gave her greater joy than serving her family, and even up to the end she was always asking what she could do to help them.
A private graveside service will be followed by memorial services at Crowder Funeral Home in Webster at 2PM on Friday June 10.
The children wish to express our deepest gratitude to Myrna Richards for providing such excellent and sensitive care and companionship to our wonderful Mother over the last two years. We also wish to gratefully acknowledge our own indomitable Aunt Marjorie for her steadfast devotion to her little sister.
The family asks that in lieu of customary remembrances, memorials can be made to Seabrook United Methodist Church @ www.seabrookumc.org, where she had been a member since 1966, or to the charity of your choice.
Your Mother and Dad were the most wonderful of people! It was very apparent that they shared a deep and abiding love for one another. Both would share concerns about the others health as the years went on. While I am sad to know your Mother is no longer with us, I am elated to know she is reunited with Jack! Our church was stronger for the love they gave generously to all of us and they remained faithful thru their love and participation in church. Your family are doubly blessed to have had these two beautiful people as parents. I pray that all of you will have as rich a life as they did.
