Barbara Anna Buras
Barbara Anna Buras, 84, passed away on August 12th, 2024 in Pearland, Texas.
Barbara was born on September 17th 1939 to Newton and Bertha Buras in Houston, TX.
Some things that Barbara loved were: shopping, reading, cooking (she was a great cook), getting flowers for any occasion, giving and receiving gifts, lipstick (she never went out without wearing lipstick!), Beautiful perfume (her trademark), dressing up for any occasion and earrings to match nearly every outfit she had. Barbara loved anything pink. She enjoyed being the center of attention. For her birthday, she loved to eat out at Cajun/seafood restaurants and have everyone sing to her! She was blessed to be able to go on cruises to Mexico while she was still in good health. Barbara made friends everywhere she went.
In Jim’s words, Barbara had a warm heart and perpetually cheerful nature that brought sunshine into his life. She felt the same way about Jim. They enjoyed talking on the phone and face timing the past few years.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Newton and Bertha Buras; and brother George Buras.
She is survived by her dear friend Jim Carr; daughter Sue Rowland and Doug; son Patrick Hughes and Jen; former husband George Hughes; brother Ted Buras; nephews David, Kevin, Brian, and Anthony Buras.
Barbara’s daughter, Sue, would like to thank Houston Hospice for their love, care, and compassion for the past few months. We were blessed with some great nurses, especially Eva, RN.
Remembrances can be made through contributions to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030-4123.
Sue, I know this is a tough time. I pray your memories bring you comfort. This last 5 years have been hard. Mom was blessed having you to watch over things for her. God Bless
Thank you for your kind words.
Barbara and I were childhood friends. I was in 5th grade and she was in 7th grade when we met. We lived on the same street and she liked to say we met when my dog bit her. When I met a new friend, Jesus, I shared Him with her and she eagerly accepted Him too. We shared a bond of friendship that was so beautiful! We could always pick up where we left off. Distance and time didn’t matter. We remained friends for 73 years. I loved her very much and will miss her tremendously! I can see the same love and caring in her daughter, Sue!
Awwwww. Thank you Miss Peggy. That was sweet. She shared your love of Jesus and that’s where she went last week.

That has to be the best write up and description of Barbara (Sister) anyone could have written. It was really beautiful.
So sorry for your lost. She was a force to be enjoyed and laugh with. She always made me smile. She was so funny and lived life to the fullest. She was lucky to have you Sue.
Mary – I am proud to say that the funeral director wrote the demographics and I added the personality to the obituary. Yes, she was always ready to have some fun.
I was blessed by Miss Barbara and my Mom’s friendship. She touched me in a special way that I will always remember and cherish. She always had a smile not only on her face but also in her heart that warmed me up inside. Her consistent sensitivity in creating crafty things for my sister and me with her hands and heart set her apart from everyone in my childhood. She was special in many ways but that was the way she made me feel most special. I’ll do my best to honor what she felt was important by paying forward that type of sensitivity and kindness as best I can.
Paul – I’m so touched by your memories of Mama. She would be crying if she were here reading this. Thank you.
