Alice Elaine (Gerlich) Sauser

Alice Elaine (Gerlich) Sauser, of League City, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the age of 93.  She was born to Julius and Elenore Gerlich in Hopkinton, Iowa on the 16th of May, 1931.

Alice grew up in Hopkinton, Iowa until her freshman year in High school when she moved to Worthington, Iowa.  She graduated from Worthington High School in 1948.  In 1947 she started dating her High School classmate Jim Sauser.  Alice and Jim were married in 1951 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa.

After Jim came back from serving his country in the Koran War, they lived one year in San Diego, California, they then moved to Monticello, Iowa.  After Jim graduated from DeVry Technical Institution in 1956, they moved to Lakewood, Colorado.  In 1969 they moved to League City, Texas until the time of her death.

Alice worked at Stanley Home Products and the Battery Factory, both in Dubuque, Iowa.  After moving to Texas, she became a beautician and then as a cafeteria manager for Clear Creek Independent School District until she retired in 1994.

Alice was a fun loving and caring person.  She volunteered as an Adult Advisor to the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in Denver, Colorado on both the parish and Diocese level.  Alice and Jim were marriage couple participants for the Search for Christian Maturity (SEARCH) Program for teenagers.  After moving to League City, Texas she work with the St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church CYO as one of the adult advisors.  She was also active in March of Dimes campaign, church bazaars, and many other activities.

Alice loved to camp and travel.  Alice and Jim traveled to all 50 states and many foreign countries.  She was also active in Jim’s Korean War Marine Recon reunions held each year.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years Jim and her 6 children, Cyndie (Ed) Boule of Magnolia, Texas; Bruce (Brenda) Sauser of League City, Texas; Fr. Steve Sauser of Fayetteville, Texas; Tim (Liz Few) Sauser of Moulton, Texas; Jeff (Dina) Sauser of Conroe, Texas; Brian (Meg) Sauser of Argyle, Texas; 19 Grandchildren, and 35 Great Grandchildren; Sisters Mary Underhill and Carol Gassman.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ed, Jim, and Bob, and her sisters Ruth and Velma, her grandson Jace Sauser and her great grandson Chris Bunch.

Alice’s family would like to thank Harbor Hospice.  A visitation and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 6-8:00pm with a Vigil at 7 o’clock at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church.  A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church followed by a graveside service at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7801 Gulf Fwy, Dickinson, TX 77539.  After the graveside service, there will be a reception at Annunciation Hall at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church.

In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to the St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church Youth Ministry in honor of her many years working with the CYO.

  2. Alice was always a kid at heart. What a precious angel God shared with all of us for soo many years. She touched the lives of many young people with her faith, her humor, her presence and her love. I can honestly say that she contributed to my vocation and in particular my compassion for teens who looked and found Jesus in the retreats we enjoeyd together. Hugs of comfort go out to Jim and all the family.
