Albert Byrd Churchill, Jr

Albert Byrd Churchill, Jr. passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the age of 88 at his home in Dickinson, TX.  He was born on September 6, 1936 to Albert Byrd Churchill and Mabel Meadows Churchill.  He was mostly known as Bubba, AB, or just grandpa.  Bubba is a childhood survivor of the Texas City Explosion on April 16, 1947.  Their family lost many family members that day, including his beloved father.  Bubba was rushed into a role that no 10 year old child should ever have been in.  He struggled for years after the loss of his father and at the age of 16 he changed his birth certificate to show he was 18 and quickly shipped out to California and remained out at sea for most of the following year.  Upon his return to Texas he met and charmed Ms. Georgia Mae Grey and quickly asked her to marry him.  They married in December of 1953.  She was the love of his life.  Their first child Albert Churchill III was born in 1955 and quickly followed in February of 1957 Robert Steven was born.  Six years later Constance Lynn Churchill was born.  Bubba made their home in League City where he built a home to raise his family on 6 acres.  Bubba built this home from scratch and paid for it as he went.  With the undying love and support from Georgia Mae, Bubba was able to achieve and receive his Captains license and Master of the Sea license at the age of 25.  Bubba proudly served as President of the League City Jaycees.  He was a proud Mason and Shriner and participated in their holiday parades in the motorcycle brigade.  Bubba loved horses, chickens, goats, parrots, peacocks and duck hunting.  He was also an avid coin collector.  After retirement he enjoyed traveling for 10 years with his beloved wife.  They eventually came home to spend more time with family and grandkids.  The love of his life passed in August 2013 just shy of 60 years together.  Approximately one year later Bubba married Grace Annette Emmite.  They resided in Dickinson, Texas for the last 10 years as husband and wife.

Bubba is survived by his sons: Albert Byrd Churchill III and wife Kelli and Robert Steven Churchill and wife Carol; daughter Constance Lynn Foster and husband Glen; brother Walter Wayne Churchill and wife Nancy; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation will be on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 9:00AM with a Service to follow at 10:00AM at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, TX.  Interment will follow at the La Marque City Cemetery.  Pastor Bill Cole will be officiating.
