James “Chip” Colovin
A celebration of “Chip” Colovin’s life will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Carlos Beer Garden located at 18018 TX HWY 3, Webster 77598.
James Edward Colovin, Jr. better known as “Chip” was the oldest child of James Edward Colovin, Sr. and Barbara Duffy Colovin and was born on June 28, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio. He was a 1963 graduate of Huntington High School on Long Island, New York. While attending the University of Michigan he was a member of the Navy ROTC. After graduating with a degree in engineering he was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Arkansas where enjoyed the great outdoors and working. Chip came to Houston in the late 70’s to join his parents and work with the space program. Although he moved to the city, at heart he remained a true pioneer with a love for the outdoors and nature. Behind his Grizzly Adams beard was a gentle soul with a brilliant and curious mind whom people loved to visit with. Chip passed away at his home, July 31, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be missed by his sister, Sue and her husband, Don Staples of Livingston, TX; brother, John “Jack” and his wife, Marie Colovin of Fountain Hills, AZ; brother, Kevin Colovin of Nassau Bay, TX; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Staples, Scott Colovin and Heather Staples Bowman and her husband, Eric; and his great nieces and nephews, Dawson and Aubree Chritian and Jaxon Bowman, whom he adored and they adored him. Chip will also be missed by his extended family at Carlos’s where a celebration of his life will be held.
So sorry to hear of Jim’ passing. I will miss his brilliant mind.
