Charles M. Walker

Charles M. Walker, 77, a resident of Houston, passed from this life on Sept 23, 2024. He is survived by his brother, Steve Walker; his six children, Charles J. Walker, Heather Ryan, Amanda Bridges, Corinne Walker, Scott Walker and Michael Walker; and thirteen grandchildren.

Charles Walker was born February 24, 1947, in Andalusia, Alabama to Bernard Walker and Ethyl (Dawkins) Walker. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama.

After completing his studies, he joined the US Army where he served our country in the Vietnam War. During this time, Charles Walker started writing back and forth to Bonnie Adams, whom he later married in 1972.

After his honorable leave from the US Army, Charles Walker worked for Schlumberger, where he worked in the oil and gas industry for many years. With all the moving that his job required early on, the family settled down in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1982.

Charles enjoyed being a supportive husband and father. He attended activities that his six children participated in including sports, music, and drama. Charles also enjoyed working in his garage and making wooden crafts and later toys for his grandchildren. Charles was an avid fan of cheering on his Alma Mater’s football team — Roll Tide!

After caring for his wife, Bonnie, who passed away in 2018, Charles moved from Corpus Christi to the Houston area to be closer to family and to receive treatment at MDA for cancer in 2021. Being in the Houston area allowed him to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. In addition, Charles Walker became active in Type I Diabetes research organizations after a couple grandchildren were diagnosed.

In his honor, there will be a visitation on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a rosary to follow at 7:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.

Charles was cremated and his remains will be buried alongside his wife.

There will be a private graveside service for the family at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the donations in his name be made to Breakthrough T1D at www.breakthrought1d.org
