Maureen Giacchino

Maureen Giacchino, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 15, 2025, held in prayer and surrounded by family. Maureen was born on August 22, 1938, in Middletown, CT, to John and Sophia Gillooly. Her life was defined by her dedication to her family, her passion for education, and her unwavering faith.

Maureen was a cherished matriarch, known for bringing her family together for countless gatherings, celebrations, and holidays. Never one to turn down an adventure, she planned family trips at every opportunity, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations.

Maureen lived a life of remarkable achievement and service. She was a pioneer in education and a role model to many. She attended Drexel University and earned her MBA from The University of Houston. In 1964, she moved to the Houston area with her husband to support NASA’s goal of landing a man on the moon. Maureen’s early career was closely tied to NASA. She established her own successful company, sharing her expertise as president of The Training Team. Maureen shared her love of learning as a teacher at both Alvin Community College and San Jacinto Community College. Even in retirement, Maureen continued to make a difference. She played a pivotal role in reopening Mount Carmel High School as a charter school, eventually serving as it’s principal.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, Maureen was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary of the Expectation in League City. She also proudly served her country as a member of the United States Coast Guard.

Above all, Maureen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Giacchino, and her daughter, Amy Giacchino Bates. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Tolman (Scott) and Maureen Huggins (Steve); her grandchildren, Joseph Thiele, Sarah Urbik (Luke), Katie Boldger (David), CJ Tolman, Michael Thiele, and Sophia Tolman; her seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family members.
