Mary Lynn Urso Decuire

Mary Lynn Urso was born on March 10, 1948, to parents Charles Vincent Urso and Katherine Francis (Emmite) Urso in Galveston, Texas. After completing his military service, Charles was a shoemaker in Dickinson, while Katherine was a gifted seamstress and an incredible cook. Mary Lynn attended Shrine of the True Cross school through junior high, followed by Dickinson High School, graduating in 1966. She then continued her education at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, majoring in Speech and Drama, receiving a secondary teaching certification. While attending TWU, she took major and minor roles in all theatrical performances. She got such joy from the theater, playing major and minor roles. She especially loved the children’s productions they performed.   After college, her teaching career spanned many locations, including Hitchcock High School, Clear Creek Intermediate, Webster Intermediate, Clear Lake High School, Clear Creek High School, and Clear Brook High School.  Speech, Theater, and English were her focus, while also bringing students to many speech competitions. She acted as both a teacher and assistant director at the high school level. She also taught makeup and speech at Actors and Models of Houston. She met her loving husband in 1970 at Hitchcock High School, where they began their loving life together. He was the love of her life for over 53 years.  They were blessed with sons Ryan Michael Decuire and Cory Patrick Decuire.  Ryan, a management analyst, is married to Frankie Betancourt, Jr., whom she considered her third son. Cory has a private architecture company. Her husband and sons were the greatest treasures she could ask for. Although Mary Lynn was an only child, her cousins and dear friends filled her life. She loved her in-laws Doris and Matt B, Susan and Gary Lopez, and Olton Decuire and Irene Cantu.  She could never have asked for such dearest of in-laws. Her baby girl Kaci (a toy Schnauzer) was so special to her and daddy Butch will continue to give her an abundance of love. Special thanks to Alexis, Debbie, and Angela for taking such good care of her while we have been on this long and challenging journey that has now ended. Special thanks to Steve Termini for coordinating and performing the music. With so much love, she leaves behind countless family and friends. Say a prayer whenever you think of her and feel free to request masses to the parish of your choice.

A visitation is planned for Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 10:30am at Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson, Texas.  A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 1:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

  1. Mary Lynn was the sweetest and most loving person I have ever known. I have been blessed to call her my Sister-In-Law for so many years. She will be greatly missed at our family dinners and game nights that we have enjoyed over the past years. Her laughter was infections when us girls (Mary Lynn, Doris, Irene, and me) were able to beat the guys (Butch, Olton, Matt, and Gary). Will always treasure those times and love her forever.

  2. I met Mary Lynn when I started teaching at the Clear Lake High School 9th Grade Annex. Because we all ate together, no dept workrooms, we became a very united group, and developed a support for each other, our students and administration that was very special. And successful! Mary Lynn was a part of that magic because of her kind and enthusiastic manner…she was ready to join any activity, from skits in pep rallies to joint fellow English teachers in cooperative planning. I remember an incident when she brought artichoke dip for one of our bday celebrations…my initial reaction was poor-ha!ha!-rude is a better word, but she made me a believer! Her beautiful smile never changed, and when we moved to Clear Brook, she was just as involved, supporting students and colleagues. Time and distance never affected my admiration and love. A wonderful woman in every way. I’ll miss you, My Sweet Friend.

  3. Where do I begin? I was blessed to call you my sister in-law and a blessing it was. You were absolutely the sweetest and most caring person 💗. I loved hearing you start our conversations with “Darling”….It was with love ❤️! When I stopped by with one of my grandbabies your smile would light up and you always wanted to fix them something to eat! I will miss you so much and like Susan mentioned our games against the guys. You were the best hostess ever. I love you and will keep the memories close in my heart.

  4. Ryan,

I’m very sorry for your loss. I lost my father a few years ago and I know how hard it is to lose a parent. It really hurts. Cherish your memories and know you can see her again one day, in Heaven!
