George “Corky” Edwin Thomas, Jr.

In Loving Memory of George “Corky” Edwin Thomas, Jr.

Devoted Husband, Beloved Father, Cherished Grandpa, and Dedicated Public Servant

October 11, 1943 – April 20, 2025

George “Corky” Edwin Thomas, Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, and longtime resident of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday. He was the cherished husband of Patricia Ann, beloved son of Beatrice and George Sr., and a treasured son-in-law to the Barringer family. He was a very proud father to Justin and Wendy and the adored “Number One Grandpa” to Kevin, Josie, and John. Corky served as a Texas police officer for 50 years, including more than four decades with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department—a tenure marked by unwavering loyalty, integrity, and compassion.

In retirement, Corky found joy in the everyday: tending to his container garden, caring for his beloved ducks and chickens, and befriending any animal that crossed his path—earning him affectionate comparisons to Doctor Dolittle. He loved watching westerns, coloring with his grandchildren, fishing with his wife, conversations with his son, and enjoying a good musical with his daughter. A man of deep faith, he was committed to Jesus and found purpose in volunteering at his church, always ready to lend a hand and share a warm smile.

A master storyteller with a signature Texas Style, Corky had a gift for recounting tales that sounded too wild to be true—but always were. He was known for his wit, generous heart, and boundless love for his family. He was a proud member of the Alvin Masonic Temple Lodge. And at the end of a long day, he enjoyed the simple pleasure of a well-made gin and tonic.

The family will receive friends at a visitation at 9:00 a.m. and a public service will be held at 10:00 AM on April 25, 2025, at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, 2422 East Broadway Pearland, TX 77581. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Brazoria County Community Coalition, continuing Corky’s legacy of care and service to the community he called home.

  3. Deepest condolences to all. I had to smile when I read of he being a story teller. That he was. I enjoyed the many times over the past years since being part of this family of sitting with him listening to his yarns. They were more informative of history as they were interesting. He will be missed!

Blessed are those who morn, for they will be comforted…. Matthew 5:4

  4. I never met the man y’all call Corky. We met online – in a computer video game called “Empire”. We were Alliance teammates. We spoke over the phone when George had questions; and we became good friends. That was almost 6 years ago. He became my big brother – so to speak. I loved him as such, and it was my health issues that kept me from traveling to Texas to meet him and Pat. They were always kind and loving friends. But now my brother has gone to the Lord. I miss him and will still work towards meeting Pat, but my dear brother/friend has gone on. My heart is sad. May God Bless his soul, his wife and all the rest of his family. Much love from Bobby & Jean Bond – Empire – S and H alliance, Carson, California.

  8. I met “Corky” back in 1993 when I began my career in Law Enforcement in the small town of Danbury,Texas. Then in 1999 I started working for the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office where “Corky”and our friendship became to grow. He was a Sergeant in the Training Division where I would stop in periodically and chat about how times have changed over the years. That being said our friendship led for 24 years. RIP my Brother🙏🏻🙏🏻

  10. My deepest condolences to you, Pat, and your family. I am sad for those remaining who will miss him deeply but rejoice in knowing you (and I) will see him again some day. I remember those times at church greeting with him and also chatting as he made his rounds throughout the building. Always a friendly face and wanting to help out with coffee duty. I love you and miss you, Pat, and am so sorry for your loss.

  14. Pat, I was saddened to get the call about Corky’s passing. Serving as a sheriff’s deputy, he dedicated his life to justice and the well-being of our community. Though we once stood on opposite sides, I always respected his integrity, commitment, and the genuine care he showed for those he served. His legacy as both a public servant and a steadfast friend will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and all who had the honor of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
