Mattie Lee Baskin, 97, of Texas City passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.  She was born July 20, 1919 in Colmesneil, Texas to James and Josephine Levings.

Mattie was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Church Librarian.  She was also a volunteer with the Galveston County Council for Retarded Children for many years.  Mattie worked for Barker Lain Schwab Law firm for 55 years as a legal secretary which became Bettison Doyle Apffel Guarino Law Firm where she received a lot of awards for her work.  Family was her life and she was very proud of her work as a legal secretary.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vernon Edwin Baskin, Sr., her sons Vernon Edwin Baskin, Jr. and Woodrow Lee Baskin and all her brothers and sisters.

Mattie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Josephine and Thomas Norman; two grandchildren Sherry Yearwood and Jim, Robert “Chris” Shannon and Patricia; three great-grandchildren George Shannon, Dawn Arjona and James Entgelmeier; two great-great grandchildren Damien Arjona and Brianna Arjona and many loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.  Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the James Crowder Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
