John Charles Markey, M.D.
John Charles Markey, M.D., age 71 years, passed away September 8, 2016, in League City, Texas.
Dr. Markey was born September 30, 1944, in Greenville, Mississippi to Adele Goode Markey and John Charles Markey, Senior who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sister, Katherine Priscilla Markey, and by his three children, Ashton Tate Markey, Raegan Blanton Markey, and Katherine Elizabeth Markey.
Dr. Markey was a graduate of Lake Providence High School in Lake Providence, Louisiana. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Louisiana State University and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Louisiana State University Medical School where he served his internship and surgical residency and was named Senior Teaching Resident his final year.
After completion of his medical training, Dr. Markey was called to active duty and served in the United States Navy as Ship Surgeon on the USS Forrestal. While on active duty, he was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal. Dr. Markey was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, Medical Corps, United States Navy Reserve.
Following discharge, Dr. Markey and his family moved to Texas where he practiced general surgery in Galveston and Harris Counties with Gulf Coast Surgical Associates and, later, in private practice. He served as Chief of Staff of the Mainland Medical Center Regional Hospital and as Chief of Surgery at both Mainland Medical Center Regional Hospital and the Clear Lake Regional Medical Center Hospital. After thirty years of practice, Dr. Markey retired in 2007.
Dr. Markey was held in high esteem by his fellow physicians and was revered by his many grateful patients. His death is a loss to all who knew him.
Dr. Markey was a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Cutting Horse Association and particularly enjoyed hunting small and large game, riding horses, and competing in cutting horse events.
On Monday, September 12, 2016, a viewing will be held at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Crowder Funeral Home, 851 FM 517 Road West, Dickinson, Texas 77539.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Louisiana State University Medical School (LSU Health Sciences Center Foundation, designated to the LSU School of Medicine, in Honor of John Charles Markey, M.D., 2000 Tulane Avenue – 4th Floor, New Orleans, LA 70112).
Chuck will be greatly missed by so many lives that he touched as a surgeon, a colleague and a dear friend. I spent many hours in the OR with him watching and learning as he worked his magic saving lives. He was like a brother to me and I will miss him as much as I miss my Dad. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I coached two of Dr.Markey’s kids. He also performed surgery on me too. He was a great surgeon. We lost a great surgeon and man. RIP!
To the family of Dr. Chuck Markey; Chuck was a good man and friend when I knew him back in the Cutting Horse days, and a good friend and doctor when I needed his help… I am very sorry for your loss of a father and friend but he is in a lot better place now… He always talked about he loved his kids and would do anything for them…

He was my Dr.
He did surgery on me twice. First in 1978. One of my favorite doctor. I didn’t know he passed. Was talking to hubby also operated on him too. I knew he wasn’t doing surgery.
Heaven got a Angel. He always made me laugh and I didn’t worry when he was my doctor. God Bless him and his family.
