Marta Gomez Hernandez, went to be with the Lord Monday, August 1, 2016 at the age of 67. Her strong will to live and unwavering faith in God carried her through many years of grueling health struggles. Even on her last day, she sung the praise of her Heavenly Father.

One of nine children, Marta was born on Dec. 25, 1948 in Sebastian, Texas to Ysabel and Manuel Gomez. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Elizabeth Guzman and Rosie Almaguer; husband Louis Hernandez; and brother-in-law Ben Kiddy, Sr.

Marta is survived by her daughter, Lina Hernandez; sisters Lydia Gomez, Julie Kiddy, Mary Gonzales, and Janie Fitzgerald and her husband Bill; brother Manuel Gomez, Jr. and his wife Merriam; and her brother-in-law John Almaguer.

Kind and gentle-mannered, Marta was the epitome of love. This love was evident in the constant smile that warmly stretched across her face and the soft, caring tone in which she spoke. Her sweet, gentle demeanor touched the hearts of everyone she came in contact with. Marta’s tender nature was coupled with a steely, quiet strength. She courageously fought an uphill health battle for many years. Yet, even when the odds were stacked against her, she fearlessly met the fight head-on. Even in moments of physical exhaustion and frustration, she never let what she was facing dampen her spirit.

Marta drew her strength from the Lord. She attended Living Stones Church for more than 30 years, participating in various ministries including the prison ministry. She was dedicated in leading people to the Lord and reaching the lost. She relied on her faith in everything she did including caring for her family. A single mother, Marta selflessly devoted herself to her daughter. She saw to it that her family had the most important thing, a solid foundation in Christ. Marta was the first person in her family to surrender her life fully to Jesus. Leading by example, she helped guide those around her to Christ.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Living Stones Church at 10 a.m. Pastor Scott Niemeier will be officiating. The family would like to thank their Living Stones Church family and Isabel Schmoldt for their continued prayers and support.
