Mary Elaine Benson, 89, of Dickinson passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at her residence.  She was born October 4, 1926 in Edna, Texas to Fred and Mary Meador.  Mary and her husband were one of the founders of the First Presbyterian Church in Dickinson and she also was one of the founders of the Weed and Wish Garden Club.  She was a member of the National Begonia Society. She taught underprivileged children how to read on a volunteer basis, and she had a love for all animals.  Mary was the Co-Pilot in her husband’s airplane and she frequently helped in her husband’s dental office.  Mary was a very good, smart woman.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dr. Ralph Benson, son Glen Benson and grandson Elijah Benson.  Mary is survived by two sons Ralph “Rick” Benson and Dr. John David Benson; three grandchildren Kimberly Lynn Benson, Lea Anne Chadwick and Sarah Elaine Benson; two great grandchildren Hunter Chadwick and Gavin Benson, niece Mary McManus and her special friend Edie Poland who cared for her devotedly for the last 6 years of her life.  A Graveside Service will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
