Thomas Patrick Gibson

Thomas PatricGibson, Thomas 16k Gibson was received into heaven while sleeping peacefully at his home in Bayou Vista, Texas on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the age of 63. He was born on January 26, 1953 to James and Billie Ruth Gibson of Houston, Texas and he lived most all his life in Texas.  Beloved husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Susan; two daughters: Kelly Stone of Issaquah, Washington and Alison Gibson of Toledo, Ohio; one son: William (Bill) Gibson and wife Heather of Toledo, Ohio; three sisters: Jeannette Smith and husband Steve of Sugarland, Debbie Sanders of W. Monroe, Louisiana and Mary Fite and husband William of Houston; six grandchildren: Jacob Stone, Tyler Stone, Calleigh Schwiebert, Mia Gibson, Cayden Gibson, and Haley Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom loved his family and he loved his friends. He shared his enthusiasm for gardening, cooking, entertaining, bowling and fishing with both. In doing so, he would put love in everyone’s heart as well as his own. He took pride in teaching his family and close friends his best tips and secrets in these areas as well.  Tom had a successful career working as an Instrument & Control Systems Designer for 30+ years with a specific passion for the oil and gas industry. His dedication and success in this field led to projects all over the United States and to the mentoring of many others he worked with through the years.  His love for life, his smile, his wink, his chuckle, his handshake, his embrace and so much more will truly be missed. Cancer may have taken his body but God has his soul and his spirit lives on in the heart and memories of all who loved him.  The family would like to thank the Head and Neck Team at MD Anderson, UTMB Galveston ICU (especially Ann Silva) and the Galveston County Hospice Care Team; Annette, Tobie and Robert. The constant care and support by everyone at all these organizations helped tremendously through these 4+ years while Tom battled tongue cancer.  The visitation will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm with rosary prayers at 7pm located at the Crowder Funeral Home; 401 Texas Avenue, La Marque, Texas. The funeral mass in his honor will be held at 10am Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church; 1604 9th Ave. N. Texas City Texas; followed by the graveside ceremony at Mt Olivet Cemetery; I-45S @Hughes Rd, Dickinson Texas.  Pallbearers for the celebration are grandsons: Jacob Stone and Tyler Stone; godson Matthew Hluchanek; brothers-in-law: Steve Smith, William H. Fite, and James Myefski. Honorary pallbearers are grandson, Cayden Gibson and godson, Hunter Fite. The reception will follow the graveside ceremony at the Ponzini Family Life Center Hall located at St Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church directly across from the main entrance into the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Hospice Care Team in Tom Gibson’s honor at www.  hospicecareteam.net

  2. Sue, Kelly and family,
I’m praying that God will bring you great comfort and peace through this time. Tom was a wonderful guy and he loved you beyond measure. I will miss the sound of his laughter, and the one-liners that went with them… and the Dr. Seuss parodies.

  3. my thoughts and prayers to Tommy’s family and friends. My childhood is full of wonderful memories of the Gibson family. From weekends of watching TwilightZone while our parents played dominoes to the campouts in Freeport and various lakes , to watching Tommy and Ricky playing ping pong in the garage. Tommy’s faith and love of family is a legacy to remember and pay forward.
Tommy will always be In our hearts

  9. I am Jeannette and Steve’s neighbor, so I didn’t know Tom for long. But I could see the see the love and support all of you provided to him when I joined you for parties. This is a such a terribly sad time in your family, and I’m glad you have each other to lean on. You will share many good stories about Tom this week while you are together. And remember his courage these past years.

    My best to you.

  10. Billie Ruth, Jim, Mary Ruth, Jeanette, Debbie: Sandra let me know about Tommy & I was so sorry to hear it. She & I had talked about Billie Ruth/Jim just a few weeks ago & wondered if they were still in Houston area or moved to Wimberley. I had forgotten about the Long Look Dr. house ’til Jeanette mentioned it in her reply to Sandra. I know that was a fun time for all you kids; and I will always remember watching all those ping pong games Tommy & Ricky played in the garage. Good memories. All are in my thoughts & prayers.

  12. Sue, Kelly, and the rest of the Gibson clan: I have been honored to know Tom and Sue since they moved next door on Blue Heron, and to get to know many of the family members in the last few years. I remember Tom’s smile, sense of humor, and his great courage and determination in his cancer fight. I will always picture he and Sue out kayaking and fishing in front of the house, Tom at the BBQ grill, with his tomato plants, and messing with the flowers by the mailbox. I am awed by the strength of the family, and honored to be their friend.
