Rev. Lassiter Elmo “Buddie” Gregg II

Gregg PhotoRev. Lassiter Elmo “Buddie” Gregg II went to be with our Lord January 19, 2016. Buddie was firstborn to Lassiter and Mildred (Counts) Gregg in Japan on February 20, 1950. He grew up in a military family and spent most of his childhood in Germany. He received his B.A. from University of Houston and his M. Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1985, he married Sherry Lea Allen at Elkins Lake Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. They have one son, Lassiter.

Buddie is preceded in death by his father, Lassiter E. “Bud” Gregg. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lea Allen Gregg, son, Lassiter Elmo Gregg III, mother, Mildred “Milly” Gregg, and siblings, Liz Bugh and husband Kenneth, Frances Hansen and husband Nels, Jim Gregg, Melanie Stanley, Woody Gregg and wife Dawn, Paige Hollingsworth and husband Lorne, and numerous nephews and nieces.

As a 9-year-old, the family moved back to the United States into a community where a new Baptist mission was meeting in a home close to where they lived. It was there Buddie accepted Christ as his Savior. Later through his involvement in Baptist Student Union and the local church that Buddie felt God’s call to full time ministry and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry through Sagemont Church, Houston, TX in 1977. Buddie served as a Baptist Student Director at Western New Mexico University for seven years before returning to Texas to meet and marry Sherry Allen, the love of his life. Buddie served churches in Texas and New Mexico before he and Sherry were appointed as missionaries with the International Mission Board (SBC). They served in the Philippines (1988 – 2001) and Poland (2001-2002) developing and leading ministries to college students, church planting and leadership development among local churches. Upon returning to the States, Buddie served in various preaching and teaching ministries, pastoral care, and served as the Director of Crossroads at Park Place, a ministry to the homeless in southeast Houston. Later he received his Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston. Since 2011 Buddie served families as a Hospice Chaplin with AMED Community Hospice throughout Galveston and surrounding counties.

Buddie and Sherry have circled the world, touring many locations, made many dear friends, and have impacted countless lives directly and indirectly for the cause of Jesus Christ. They often entertained guests from around the world in their home and were active in the community. He was a active member of Bay Area First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Joyful Servants Life Group, sang with The Joy Singers, and served as a Bible teacher when needed. He enjoyed all types of sacred and secular music. He was known to be a conversationalist, an amateur movie critic, polyglot, and polymath who never stopped learning. His life verse was Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.”

A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 6-8:00pm at crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573. A Ceremony will follow on Saturday at 10am at Bay Area First Baptist Church, 4800 W Main St, League City, TX 77573. A grave side service will take on Saturday at 3:00pm at Center Hill Cemetery,110 Center Hill Rd., Oakhurst, TX 77539.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Student Ministry in the Philippines, c/o Back to Bethel Ministries (backtobethelministries.com) or Crossroads at Park Place Inc. (crossroadsatparkplace.org)
