Stella Marie Thompson

Thompson, Stella 15 obit picStella Marie Thompson was born on November 18, 1923 in Houston, Texas to parents, Joseph Eugene Kuzel and Anna Marie Kostka. Stella is preceded in death by her sons, Robert Thompson Sr. and George Eugene Thompson. She is survived by her children Tommy Thompson, Richard Dean Thompson, William Joseph Thompson, and Bonnie Marie Carden Thompson. Stella is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Stella spent most of her childhood playing and working on her families’ farm. During her childhood young Stella would often make dolls out of corn husks, straw and old flour sacks. As a child she enjoyed acting, gymnastics, and playing instruments. She performed in plays at the local Sukal (Czech Recreation Center) while staying with her Aunt in Houston. Stella was active with the Czech community as a teenager and often stated that she was required to exclusively speak Czech to her grandmother when she was a child.
As a young adult Stella married George Thompson. She gave birth to six beautiful children, which filled her years with much laughter and cherished times. The Thompson’s found a permanent residence in Texas City on Tarpey Avenue to raise their growing family. Stella enjoyed a career as a meat wrapper at Weingarten’s Grocery Store. She was a beautiful, sweet-spirited, hard-working, loving mother who had a heart of gold. As a single mother, Stella labored diligently to care for her six children, working as many as three jobs at a time. Cooking and baking were some of her gifts that all the family delighted in during the holidays. For years Stella prepared the most amazing, delicious, homemade Czech kolaches, pies, and turkey dinners. Stella’s love extended to her pets as well. She took care of her cats and dogs like they were her children; she considered them part of the family. Over the years Stella adopted numerous animals and gave them a loving home.
She believed in enjoying life and living it to the fullest. Stella was a huge fan of music and dancing. She often danced in the living room with her family when one of her favorite songs played. Stella appreciated the simple things in life. Many of her days were spent sitting on the back porch sipping a cup of coffee while taking in natures’ beauty, visiting with family and friends, and recalling wonderful memories from her childhood. During her life Stella inspired many family members and friends with her vivacious personality, perseverance, and giving heart. She believed in God, and as a Christian, prayed over her children and family every day. Stella may have left this world, but her spirit lives on through her bloodline. Stella’s strength, ingenuity, purity, and love flows in all of her family forever. She was an angel on Earth, now an angel in Heaven.
A Visitation will be on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. A Graveside Service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.

  2. God took my beautiful mother to heaven so she could live on in peace and without pain. I miss my mom so deeply within my heart and soul. I will always need her and miss her ptesence in my life. She is my best friend and hero. Now she is my guardian angel. If heaven wasn’t so far away, I would go there and bring her back, so I could tell her how much she means to me and how much I need her and love her. My mom is my inspiration and she made my life worth living.

  3. I met Stella Thompson when our family moved on 3rd avenue. She was such a pretty lady and took great care of her 6 children. We would get together at the back fence and Stella and Mom would visit each other while we played with her 4 younger children. So sorry for your loss, she was a wonderful lady.

  5. Stella, Nene as most of us called you, I will miss you so very much. Your quick wit, unconditional love for your family, kindness to animals, and love of life were a blessing for us all. I want to thank you for embracing me as a daughter many years ago, it meant so much to me. God has called you home and I know you are happy and healthy in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Love,

  6. My condolences to the Thompson family. We lived behind Stella and her children on 3rd Ave N. my mom and Stella became friends as we did with her children. Bonnie and Billy were about my age and the others were older but they all were very nice like their beautiful mom. Stella was a very loving person she always made you feel welcomed in her home. Lots of memories at the back fence. Stella RIP.

  7. Stella was one of the kindest ladies I ever knew. She and I go back over 50 years ago. We lost contact for 40 years but when we found each other again we just picked back up like we neve lost time. I will miss you so much and our two hour phone calls. I am sad that I did not live closer. I know you are in heaven now and dancing with the other angels. What a blessing you were to everyone here.I will never forget you.
Rest in peace for you are a special angel in heaven now.

  8. I came as a stranger into her house more than 20 years ago. Everyone there a little skeptical of me and my intentions. But she welcomed me and made me part of the family. I will miss the welcoming smile and youthful vigor she displayed. Nobody could guess her age, because she looked 30 years younger than she was. She lived through a great depression, World War 2, numerous hurricanes, and now she can rest and we all have the happy memories that she gave us. Even though time has moved me elsewhere, she will always be my NeNe too. God Bless and Keep her.

The hard work and love she has woven into her children will live thru many many generations. While your body will be missed, the impression you have left will live forever .
