Marie Braden Meyer Whiteley, 90, of Texas City passed away Sunday July 19, 2015 at her residence. She was born July 12, 1925 in Colorado County, Texas to Hubert and Gertrude Braden.
She was a resident of La Marque for over 53 years and worked for many years at Medical and Surgical Clinic Associates before retiring in 1990. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church from its earliest days and was a longtime member of the Ladies Guild.
Among her joys in life were cooking for family and friends, gardening, playing dominoes and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbors. As a lifelong bridge player she played in one group for over 50 years.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hubert Braden, Jr. (Mary Ann) and spouse Howard W. Meyer. She is survived by husband Jack D. Whiteley, her children Anne Bailey (Keith Sr.), Janet Carter (Jack Muecke), Joan Meyer and Robert Meyer (Barbara); seven grandchildren including David, Tim and Katherine Meyer; Alexa Burrow (Gordon); Tracy Cowan (Channing); Keith Bailey, Jr. (Cindy); and Claire Smith (Jerrod); nine great-grandchildren including Bailey, Emma, Jackson and Teague Smith, Keeton and Cassie Bailey, and Lainey, Sophie and Scott Burrow; and nephews James Luhn and Eric Braden.
The visitation will be held at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque on Thursday July 23, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM followed by a Rosary. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM Friday July 24, 2015 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque offered by Father Chacko Puthumayil. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday July 24, 2015 at St. Roch’s Catholic Cemetery in Mentz, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Keeton Bailey, Keith Bailey, Jr., Robert Meyer, Tim Meyer, Rick Ferguson, and Ronald Bodine. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Bailey, Sr, Eric Braden and James Luhn.
