Michael Douglas Bright

Bright PhotoMichael Douglas Bright, 63, of League City, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning in the presence of his loved ones. Mike was born in Galveston on January 8th, 1952.

Mike was a U.S. Air Force veteran, worked out of Local Union 517 for several years and was a long-time NASA contractor/manager. He has spent many years as a volunteer youth soccer coach, touching many young lives along the way. He was a colleague, a mentor, a friend, and a loving husband and father. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Mike made many friends in life. He loved spending time with his family and really enjoyed family gatherings. Mike was a good spirited man, whose faith in the Lord grew even stronger in the last few years of his life. He was a man who rarely angered, who comforted those who were hurting, and was always there for those around him.

Mike is preceded in death by sister Pamela Sue Mitchell; half brother Douglas Bright; and Step Mother Wanda Bright.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sherri Hines Bright; son Jared Bright; daughter Eryn Bright; mother Betty Swope; father Douglas Bright; sister Carol Surrock and husband Les Surrock; half sister Lisa Callaway and husband Reid Callaway; half sister Cathy Wesley and husband Hal Wesley; and In-laws Earlis and Millie Hines; numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Callie.

Many thanks to all the loving friends, family, and care givers, who supported his quest for life. Mike fought a tough opponent the last few years of his life. He is surely at peace in the presence of the Lord, watching all those who are grieving. Be comforted to know he is happy and will see you all again. God bless you all, he will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8, from 6 to 8 pm at Crowder Funeral Home located at 1645 E Main St, League City, TX 77573, (281) 332-2727. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 pm and will be immediately followed with a service celebrating his life from 7 to 8 pm.

Burial Services will be held Saturday, May 9, beginning at 10 am. Services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX, 77598, (281) 332-3111.

  1. Sherri, Mr. Bright was a sweet, dear man with a gentle soul. My heart is not heavy as I write this because I have faith that he is smiling and happy in all of God’s graces. My eyes tear up but that is for you. He will always be your guardian angel. Thank you for allowing me to share in a part of your lives together.

  2. I am so very sorry to hear this. my deepest and sincerest condolences to mike’s beautiful family. as childhood friends, we grew up across the street from each other and he always had a special place in my heart.

I will remember Mike with the lighting of a luminaire candle in the American Cancer Society, Dickinson Relay for Life event on May 22, 2015.     We were deeply saddened hearing of your loss of your husband Mike. We will always remember as a person who helped in being a valuable role model for Elaine and all of the girls of the Dynamite Team. His moral values and ethics made him stand tall above all the rest. We considered him to be a part of what Elaine is today.
