True story about Mark.
I was night shift police officer in Kemah many years ago, and he was night shift at Clear Lake Shores PD. We would often meet up just to shoot the breeze, and we were sitting in a parking lot one night when someone came by and said there was an accident down the road, in Clear Lake Shores. We both took off to go see, and while on the way there, I saw him peel off and contact three fellows walking down the road close to where the accident was reported. I continued on and found the accident.
Only it wasn’t an accident. It was a robbery / attempted murder. The victim was still there, survived the attack. The three guys walking that Mark peeled off to contact were the ones who did it; they had forced the victim into the ditch and knifed him, left him for dead. I almost panicked thinking Mark was being attacked, called him on the radio, told him secure himself and his mike, and he responded “I already have them in custody.”
What a guy.
My deepest condolences to his family. He was one great guy, a good friend, a brother officer.
It was an Honor to have been your friend Mark.
When ever we saw you, you always made Lloyd and I feel “Welcome”.
You’re “ONE OF A KIND” and I’ll remember you… with a contagious smile; enjoyably funny; and Brave. You’ll truly be missed!!
RIP…Greek
Deepest condolences on Mark’s passing. He always had a smile on his face for everyone and will be missed.
I am deeply saddened by this loss. My sympathies go out to Marks family and his close friends (Mike Wells) who loved him dearly. This is a great loss. He will be greatly missed.
Kantralis, as we always called him in high school, was one of the funniest people I have been around. Back then, I was driving my Moms car and one of the headlights was out. From then on he called me the “one headlight queen”. He would come up with some of the funniest things you have ever heard and it would stick. As the years went by I always looked forward to seeing him at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo BBQ cookoff. I made it a point to find him wherever he was. There he would be in Mike Well’s booth out front acting a fool. I didn’t attend for the last few years and Im sorry now that I didn’t. Even though we didn’t see each other that often, I still considered him a good friend of mine.
His legacy will live on!
Beverly, you are so target. Y’all’s high school friendships were the best. Unbreakable bonds. Kantralis was the life of the group and lived to make sure everybody had a good time and loved life.
Once you met him, maybe rode motorcycles with him, or worked in and around him, you KNEW, he was one of a kind…I hadn’t had the occasion to see him for several years, but I know he would have picked up the phone or walked up and picked right up where we left off. He would literally do ANYTHING he could do to help you or someone you knew…
Miss our talks already Greek… RIP
I am so sad to hear about this news, it seems like it was yesterday that I had seen him coming to 1201 commerce to pick up a prisoner from harris county. I met him while he would pick up our prisoners for Pasadena pd and it was always a delight to see him. Last time that I saw him was when he was picking up a prisoner from us and I of course got me a huge hug and I am so glad that I did now. I am very happy that I got a chance to see him not that long ago. My heart goes out to the family and I know that this is a very difficult time for you. The whole family is in my thoughts and prayers… my sincere condolences

Mark was such a joyous young person when I knew him in high school. He truly knew how to make people around him laugh. I always looked for him at reunions. He will be missed. Many blessings to his family and loved ones. Gone way too soon.
My condolences on Mark’s passing. When I was on patrol, I would often meet him for warrant transfers. I would also see him at HPD Central. The man always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everybody. I’m sure all the jailers are gonna miss him too.
The man was as genuine as they come. My brother you will be missed.

I was so sad to hear the news of Mark. Loved the man dearly. He was one of first friends I can remember. We grew up together. I remember a lot of crazy elementary school antics. We played football together on the same team from the Meyerland blue devils to Bellaire High School ( 8 years). He was a great friend of mine for now 45 years. I wished we had spent more time together. My condolences to all the surviving family. Mark you will be missed.

My sincere condolences to Mark’s family on his untimely passing. We were neighbors many years ago in Meyerland & I was very sorry to learn of this. Peace to you all.
Mark was an intuitive, caring, protective and sweet man. I’ll always remember him fondly as he helped me through a difficult time in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Rest in peace my friend.
My condolences to Marks family. I remember the good times we had on the Anahuac trips back in our high school, college years and a few years after that. The trip was made up of seven or eight fellow cardinals. Mark of course had a huge hand in making those trips extra special. Fishing, crabbing, duck hunting, three wheeler races, mudding, sitting around the bonfire drinking cold beer and telling stories and enjoying each others company. Almost forgot about the alligator! Those were the best of times. Thanks for the memories. You will be MISSED!
God Bless
I am so sorry to hear the news about Mark. Although I have not seen him in many years, I have fond memories of visiting the Kantralis house growing up. Mark was bigger than life, with a fun, strong personality. He was always around to protect his home and the people he loved. I know his family and friends will miss him greatly.
Although I will not be able to attend his service today, please know my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. May his memory be eternal.
When I first started my law enforcement career with Galveston County Sheriff, Mark was my supervisor. He took me under his wing and gave me a great foundation. Back then, everyone referred to him as the “Italian Stallion.” Mark definitely had a way with people. Everyone was drawn to him and with good reason. I haven’t talked to Mark in years…and I guess it’s because life takes us on different paths. I wish that would have been different and I could have seen him again. Be kind to each other and tell your friends and family you love them.
I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Kantralis. We we were classmates in High School and one of my fondest memories was working with him on a filmmaking project. You will be greatly missed friend and my condolences to your family.
Mark, you will truly be missed brother! I had the privilege of working with you and being your supervisor long ago, and I always enjoyed having you on our team. Your infectious smile and positive attitude was always refreshing, you were a pleasure to supervise and to work with.
I’m sure your entertaining everyone in your new home, rest in peace brother!
“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8 Amen.
Love you Mark. It was my pleasure to know you to work with you all these years.
Our loss is Christ’s gain. Until we meet again big guy on the other side of the sunrise, God bless you.
To the Kantralis family, God has called a beloved son home. May the Lord bless you and keep you in your time of loss as y’all suffer grief.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Amen Rev. Bordelon, our loss is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gain!!! Until we meet on the other side brother we will continue in the faith looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith!!!
It makes me so very sad to read of Mark’s passing. He was such a good friend to my brother, Joe, and the “band of brothers,” Mike Wells, Pat Flynn, and Danny Huffman.
I remember many times before he and Joe would leave the house our Mother would say, “You two have a good time….but just don’t tell me about it.” Always so full of life, Mark always made you feel special. Mark and Joe are probably already having a great reunion with a couple of “cold ones”. Rest in peace, Mark Kantralis. OPA!
My name is Mike I knew Mark as a true straight forward police officer for some years. I don’t know if y’all heard of me I was the sergeant commissioned security officer who did a ton of business and deals on vintage police lights with Mark. He was a brother to me, I used to mow his land at his original home near Gaston pier, I used to drive him in his truck to the Pd maintenance facilities for eBay equipment runs. I bought a 2004 crown Vic p71 police cruiser nearly fully equipped cage bumper spotlight consol etc for a great DEAL. Mark and I always worked together on super deals with police equipment. I met him back in 2005 and knew him until 2011. He would get me in the rodeo cook off for free to help with all the prepping of the booth assisting. The free barbecue and beer were great. I was crushed to hear his passing some time ago from Rusty Morin at ESP and wrecker service in Pasadena some time ago. I will never forget all he did for me as well. Awesome individual. Ps. I still got all your lights Mark.
Mark was my friend, my riding buddy and my next door neighbor down on Dickinson Bayou. We had more fun than any law allowed and we always had each other’s back. I still wrack my ole Harley pipes when I ride by your old homestead expecting you to walk out and wave me down. Until we meet up again, Rest in Peace brother, you will never be forgotten as long as I am alive. Proud to have been your friend.
