Walter E. “Yankee” Wilson

Walter E. “Yankee” Wilson, 90, of La Marque, passed away Saturday April 5, 2025, in Houston. Walter was born May 28, 1934, in Clare, Michigan, to Walter Hines and Maxine Ruth His Step father was Norman Wilson.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  Yank worked at Monsanto/Sterling Chemical in Texas City for 30 years.  He has been a resident of La Marque since 1956. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #999 La Marque and # 938 Huntington. He also was a Past Master of the La Marque Masonic Lodge #1325, a member of Council and Commander, a member of the Galveston El Mina Shrine, a Lifetime Member of the International Association of Machinist, and a member of the Church of Nazarene, Texas City. He worked with both the La Marque Little League Baseball and the Girls Softball League for twenty years.  He helped start the La Marque All Play Football Tigers.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Bonnell Robb Wilson; his mother, father and stepfather; two sons: Walter E. “Bill” Wilson II and Rob C. Wilson; one brother: Gus Wilson; and one sister: Etta Doty; Walter is survived by one daughter: Nancy C. Woodham (Terry); one sister: Ula Grove; four grandchildren: Sage Fowler (Daniel), Robbie Price, Alexis Wilson and Tyson Woodham (Christie); and two great grandsons: Wyatt Woodham and Mason Sica; one great granddaughter: Cicillia Sica.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 6:00pm Monday, April 7, 2025 at James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque. A service will follow at 6:00pm in the Chapel, with Pastor James Lewis officiating.  A graveside service will follow on Tuesday April 8, 2025 at 1:00pm, at Jonesville Cemetery, in Huntington, Texas. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Burns Institute in Galveston.

    He was very proud of his family and shared y’alls accomplishes with everyone he could. He will be missed.
