JOYCE MARIE HICKS VYVIAL

JOYCE MARIE HICKS VYVIAL, 92, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at home with her loving family for which she was a beacon of light.  She has been a La Marque resident for 70 years.  She was born August 28, 1932 near Ganado, Texas to Joel Harvey Hicks and Opal Belle Valigura Hicks.  The family moved to the Stewart Ranch on Galveston Island during WWII and she graduated from Ball High in Galveston in 1949.  She worked at Demack Co. in Galveston, Firestone in Virginia, Plantowsky Furniture, Guaranty Federal Savings and Loan as a Senior Vice President and Union Carbide, retiring in 1987.

Joyce loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed crocheting, baking, and celebrating every occasion with her family.  Joyce attended countless football, soccer, baseball, basketball games, and dance recitals and drill team performances for kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

She was a member of the Texas City – La Marque Chamber of Commerce, Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, Pilot Club, Amoco Retirees Group and a member of Highlands Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Elgin W. Vyvial; children Ron Vyvial (Ann Bilek) of Schulenburg, Debbie Vyvial of Texas City and Glen Vyvial (Jill Hooks) of Texas City.  Grandchildren:  Adam Vyvial (Caroline) of Katy, Emily Aki (Rusty) of San Antonio, Erica Hollister (Bobby) of Texas City and  Jackson Colton of Dickinson.  Great Grandchildren: Nancy Vyvial, Tess Vyvial, Elgin J. Vyvial, Pearl Vyvial, Katy Aki, Maile Aki, Emma Aki, Hayden Hollister (Maegan), Pierce Hollister (Katelynn) and Logan Hollister, Great-Great Grandchildren: Knox Hollister, Baylor Hollister (Due 5/25), Sutton Hollister, Collins Hollister (Due 8/25); Sister-in-Law Georgia Vyvial and many, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Bobbie Jean Hicks Fox Manning; Brothers- in- Law Roman Vyvial (Annie), Edward Vyvial (Mildred), Adolph Vyvial (Rosalee), William Vyvial, Allen Vyvial (Loraine), George Vyvial (Faye), Elmont Vyvial (Georgia), Ben Vyvial, and Tommy Fox and Sisters- in-Law Aghata Hartman, Hilda O’Day (Buckley), Willie Mae Dicus (Arvil), Alma Hicks, Elizabeth Lang, and Emilee Anderson (Andy).

A visitation will be held at James Crowder Funeral Home, 401 Texas Avenue, La Marque at 9:00, March 18, 2025 with a funeral service following at 10:00 with Michael O’Day officiating.  Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX  77038.

Pallbearers will be Adam Vyvial, Elgin J. Vyvial, Rusty Aki, Hayden Hollister, Pierce Hollister, and Jackson Colton.
