Anna M. Fairleigh Hux
Anna M. Fairleigh Hux, 94, passed peacefully at home in Kerrville, TX, on February 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 5, 1930, in New Orleans, LA, to Rose and Arland Fairleigh Sr.
Anna was raised in New Orleans, where she met the love of her life, Joseph C. Hux Jr. The two were married on August 20, 1947, and together they had three children: Joseph C. Hux III, Wayne A. Hux Sr., and Raymond W. Hux Sr. As a family, they relocated for Joe’s work at Falstaff, moving from New Orleans to San Jose, CA, where their third child, Raymond, was born.
Anna embraced her role as a dedicated homemaker, loving mother, talented cook, and skilled seamstress. She also enjoyed bowling, a hobby she pursued with great enthusiasm. In 1966, she proudly obtained her high school diploma by attending night school, demonstrating her determination and commitment to lifelong learning.
Due to Joe’s work at Falstaff, the family moved again, living in La Marque, TX, before settling in Foster, Rhode Island, where they remained until Joe’s unexpected passing in 1973. Soon after, Anna returned to La Marque, TX, where she worked for the Salvation Army and later for Weiner’s Department Store. She dedicated many years there before retiring.
A devout Catholic who recited the Rosary daily, Anna was a member of several parishes throughout her life, including St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Foster, RI; St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in San Jose, CA; Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque, TX; and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock, TX. At Our Lady of Lourdes, she formed many cherished friendships as a member of the parish friendship club. She also enjoyed playing Bunco in three different groups and was remembered for her signature “Vegas-style”roll of the dice. Anna also enjoyed visiting the casino, where she loved to play the slot machines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Colden Hux Jr.; her parents, Rose and Arland Fairleigh Sr.; her brothers, Arland Fairleigh Jr. (wife Melva), Jimmy Fairleigh Sr. (wife Dixie), Moe Fairleigh (wife Lelia), and Joseph “Joe” Fairleigh; her sisters, Theresa McNiel (husband Neil) and Roseanne McLaughlin (husband J.D.); her in-laws, Leontine and Joseph C. Hux Sr.; her brothers-in-law, Gordon Johnson and Bill Hux (wife Jeanette); and her sisters-in-law, Mary Hammel (husband Emile) and Betty Helm (husband John).
She is survived by her children: Joseph C. Hux III (wife Jessie), Wayne A. Hux Sr. (wife Karen), and Raymond W. Hux Sr. (wife Connie). To her three generations of grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “Maw Maw” She is survived by her grandchildren: Joseph C. Hux IV, Rose Wantz (husband Todd), Wayne A. Hux Jr. (wife Sheila), Kenny J. Hux (wife Amber), James A. Hux (wife Malarie), Melissa A. Revier, and Raymond W. Hux Jr., as well as 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kathy Johnson, wife of Gordon. Anna was affectionately known as “Nanny”to numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 10114 Hwy 6, Hitchcock, TX 77563. The viewing will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Father Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7801 Gulf Frwy, Dickinson, TX 77539.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.
