John Taylor Hander, 76 of La Marque passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 in La Marque.  He was born on November 13, 1948 to Dr. William and Lucille Hander in Galveston, Texas.

He graduated from La Marque High School in 1967. John went to Durham Business College in Houston after graduation.  He joined the Navy in 1969 until 1972 during the Vietnam War serving on the U.S.S. Passumpsic.  When he returned he started working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Engineering Technician (Draftsman) for 39 years.  John attended College of the Mainland and received several degrees.

John met his wife Sophia in High School and they were married on February 27, 1971 at La Marque Presbyterian Church in La Marque.

He is preceded in death by his parents, niece Meagan Long and nephew-in-law Tony.  John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sophia W. Hander, two sisters; Dianne Long and Lowell of Dallas and Barbara McManus and Terry of San Antonio and brother, Edwin Hander and Trish of Cincinnati and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Mem1 Church in Texas City with Pastor Chon Pugh officiating.
