Velma Faye Prothro
Velma Faye Prothro, 91, of Pearland, TX passed away on December 06, 2024 in Houston, TX. Faye was born on March 03, 1933 to Jay and Octavia Worthy in Beaumont, TX. She has been a resident of Pearland for the past three years and formerly resided in Beaumont, TX.
Faye was raised in the North end of Beaumont and she raised her family there as well. She was a former member of North End Baptist Church and retired from Coca Cola after over twenty-five years of service. As a teenager Faye was introduced to her future husband, Charles, by friends. They married on
January 2, 1951. Charles was in the Navy and stationed in California so she soon moved there to be with him. They lived in several areas around the San Francisco Bay area and remember it as a wonderful time in their lives. They were a loving couple who were an example to their children and were blessed with over 73 years as husband and wife. Faye and her 5 brothers remained close all their lives. Faye’s mother hosted weekly family dinners and when she died asked Faye to ‘keep the family together’. It was a request that Faye was honored to uphold. She was always eager for opportunities to host family and friends, and especially loved holidays. She loved her brothers’ children as she knew her mother would have. She adored being a mother and grandmother herself and took great joy in being surrounded by
her grandchildren. The family has many fond memories of being at Mammoo and Pappoo’s ‘farmhouse’ in Warren and their beach house in Crystal Beach, having sleepovers and enjoying meals together.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents Jay and Octavia Worthy; brothers and their wives: Roy Jay Worthy (Aline), Claude Worthy, Cecil Worthy (Beulah), Benny Worthy (Janey) and Edward (Margie) Worthy and great-grandchild Olivia Gant.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 73 years Charles Prothro; daughters Charlette Sandell and husband Randy and Denise Prothro and husband Lonnie; son Allen Prothro and wife Michelle; grandchildren Kelly Turner, Craig Sandell, Chaz Prothro and wife Jessica, Amanda Garza and husband Aldan and Casey Prothro and wife Heydi; great-grandchildren Hannah Buckley and husband David, Samantha Gant, Madison Garza, Aviana Garza, Evan Prothro, Sophia Prothro, May Prothro, Lexi Prothro and Nathan Prudencio; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
