Margie Ann Black Franklin
Margie Ann Black Franklin, born February 4, 1953, in La Marque, Galveston, Texas, went home to be with her Savior on November 26, 2024 after battling cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dial and Edna Black, and her daughter, Kristina Franklin.
Margie leaves behind her devoted husband of over 50 years, Tim Franklin; her son, Robert Franklin, and daughter-in-law, Amy; her cherished grandchildren, Violeta and Sam; her brother, Jimmy Black, and sister-in-law, Glenda; and a host of cousins, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Margie’s life was marked by an adventurous spirit and a heart for others. As a young girl, she was active in Girl Scouts, where she developed her love of the outdoors, even spending weeks backpacking through Wyoming. She played softball well into her 30s, bringing determination and joy to the field. Her journey with Tim began at a summer camp for the mentally challenged, where they were both volunteering—a reflection of the compassion that defined her life.
A graduate of La Marque High School’s Class of 1971, Margie pursued her calling as a caregiver, completing her nursing degree at Alvin Community College. She worked as a registered nurse before choosing to stay home to care for her daughter, Kristy.
Margie lived a life of selfless service, not only within her family—caring for Kristy and later both her and Tim’s parents—but also in her community. She and Tim shared a deep faith and a calling to ministry. In 2003, they followed that calling to plant The Connection, a church in Texas City., where Margie’s steadfast support and influence helped create a place where lives could be transformed.
In 2012, they expanded their ministry by launching Coffee Connection, a nonprofit coffee shop that became a beacon of hope and generosity in the community. Through this endeavor, Margie and Tim touched countless lives and directed significant resources toward meeting local needs.
Margie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her compassionate heart, and her quiet strength. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a loving nana, and a friend to all. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A celebration of Margie’s life will be held at Gulf Coast Foursquare Church on December 7, 2024 at 10:00AM, where friends and family will gather to honor her journey and the eternal hope she carried. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the young adult ministry at The Connection Church.
