Duane Linwood Johnson

Duane Linwood Johnson of LaMarque, TX went to be with his Lord on Sunday October 27, 2024 at the age of 79.

Duane was born on June 28, 1945 in Washington, DC to Arlie L and Dorothy T Johnson.

A veteran of the US Coast Guard he honorably served his country from 1965 to 1969. While stationed in Alaska he was introduced to and fell in love with a Samoyed Huskey (Sammy) named Lanny. He immediately acquired a Samoyed puppy named Pinehills Happy Go Lucky. The love affair with the Samoyed breed would continue throughout his life. He and his wife Lois owned, bred and showed Sammys for many years. They became tirelessy active and involved with the MidAtlantic Samoyed Rescue and successfully found good homes for many dogs.

He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, DC. After his discharge from the Coast Guard he attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO. He then attended Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While at Frostburg he continued to enjoy life as a college student, participating in the Drama Club and acting in their performances.

Duane loved sports. He was a dedicated hockey fan, coached Little League Hockey teams and played on intramural Hockey teams. He was a season ticket holder of the Washington Capitals hockey team for many years. He was a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins football team, and never acknowledged the new name assigned to them. Duane was overjoyed when the Washington Nationals baseball team won the World Series. To his delight all three of his hometown teams won Championships while he lived in the Washington DC area.

Interests included art, photography, scuba diving and reading. He loved to read detective novels,
historical novels and keeping up with current events. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and telling his many stories. He was a passionate patriot and loved this country. He had big dreams, a big heart and lived his life to the fullest. He will be remembered and missed by all of us who knew and loved him. There will never be another one like him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lois, parents Arlie and Dorothy Johnson and brother Keith Johnson.

He is survived by his sister Cheryl Corder and husband Charles of Trinidad, TX; nieces Vikki Johnson of Carrolton, TX, Karyn Johnson of Dallas, TX, Karyl Moultrie of Thornton, CO and Kimberly Kane and husband Mark of League City, TX; brothers in law Ken Ferren and wife Cathy of Warrenton, VA, and Art Ferren and wife Nancy of Snyder, TX; sister in law Lorena Johnson of Blairsville, GA; great nieces and nephew; great, great nephews; many cousins; and his Sammy, Skooter.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday November 16, 2024 at the Crowder Funeral Home 1645 E Main Street League City, TX 77573. There will be a viewing and visitation at 12:00pm and a service at 1:00pm.

Burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, 18424 Joplin Rd. Triangle VA 22172. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 12:30pm. at the Cemetery.
