James (Jimbo) Salazar Velasquez
James (Jimbo) Salazar Velasquez, of Texas City, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, in Texas City, Texas at the age of 78. He was born on September 17, 1946, in Texas City, Texas to Jimmy and Guadalupe Velasquez.
“BoBo” was a proud Marine, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and a notorious Facebook jailbird. He retired from Union Carbide after a 35-year career as a Boilermaker. For more than 30 years, he could be spotted on the ball field, whether from the dugout or the stands. He helped instill a love for the game in his daughters, granddaughters, grandson, nieces, and countless other kids. He loved football (with the Dallas Cowboys notably excluded from this passion), the movie Shane, his country, and President Donald J. Trump – probably the reason he kept landing in Facebook jail. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 6378 and a proud Vietnam vet with two tours of duty. His kindness, service, and warmth will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy Velasquez and Guadalupe Velasquez Biberston, Stepfather Harry Biberston, Brother Jerry Velasquez and Sister Rachel Velasquez.
Jimbo is survived by his wife, Sherry Velasquez. They would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this coming November 27th. His children, Shebette Boman and husband, Alan, Gretta Bassett and husband, Tim and Nathan Graber and wife, Ann. His grandchildren, Zach McNamara, Lynsie Salazar, Lauren Vermilyea (Christian), Trevor Bassett, Travis Bassett, Bryce Boman (Desiree), Preslie Hearne and Jaxon Graber. His great-grandchildren, Samuel, Carson, Madilyn, Donovan and Ledger. His sister, Annette Velasquez Hlebinsky and husband, Gary and brother, Victor Biberston. He also had many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Family will receive friends at 8:30am on Friday, November 8, 2024, with a Ceremony at 9:00am at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573 celebrated by Jimbo’s dear friend, Kirk Adams.
