Brenda Emery

Brenda Emery, of League City and formerly of Paris, Texas, passed away in her sleep, with family members by her side, on October 16, 2024 after battling sarcoidosis for over fifty years.

Brenda was born on March 8, 1941 to James R. and Margaret Adams Griffin in Crisfield, Maryland and spent her early years in Northeast Arkansas. She went to Arkansas State University and graduated from East Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Art History. She was a member of the Phi Mu sorority and a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, most recently Webster Presbyterian.

Brenda was an accomplished watercolor artist and art teacher, winning numerous awards and recognition for her work. She was an active member of the Watercolor Art Society of Houston (WAS-H). Her artwork is displayed in many homes, businesses and book covers throughout the south.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of League City, TX, brother Jim (Pam) Griffin of Garland, TX, daughters, Kim Lutz of Cedar Park, TX, Katherine (David) English of League City, TX, Christi (Aaron) George of Missouri City, TX and Stephanie (Kendal) Kirk of Lindale, TX. Brenda also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Halle and Sarah English of League City, TX, Henry, TC, and Rosemary George of Missouri City, TX, Andy and Jack Kirk of Lindale, TX.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Margaret Griffin.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all who cared for Brenda over these many years, particularly the nurses, doctors and staff of Houston Methodist Hospital in Clear Lake, TX. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

  2. Brenda was a very warm and caring person, and she was truly an incredible artist. I have several of her paintings that I cherish. To her family, you are so blessed to have had her in your lives, and you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. Kenny, we loved Brenda so much! We made great memories traveling to Europe, cruising, going to golf tournaments & kicking up our boots at the rodeo! Brenda was always laughing & we had such great times! She will always be in our hearts, & will treasure the paintings she gave us!
