David Lynn Bean, 85, of Pearland, TX passed from this life on September 27, 2024. He was born in Beaumont, Texas on March 13, 1939 to Clebern Bean and Floy Estelle (Miller) Bean. David was known throughout his life as a kind, friendly soul and helpful neighbor, always ready to assist others, especially if it involved fixing things.

He graduated from South Park High School, Beaumont, in 1957 and served as the Senior Class President, and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Lamar University. He worked for various companies throughout his life including Westinghouse and Killark. He later worked as an independent consultant.

David was a lifelong ham radio enthusiast, self-taught hypnotist, and held an auctioneer’s license. He is known to many of his “ham friends” as “Zucor”, a moniker based on his long time ham radio license call letters W5ZQR, and “Poppie” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He attended various congregations of the church of Christ throughout his lifetime, including Central Church of Christ in Pearland where he served as an elder for several years. His last church home was Southeast Church of Christ in Friendswood.

David is survived and loved by his children, April Lynn Roach (Robert), David Bryan Bean, and Jeffrey Loren Bean (Meloney), as well as grandchildren Erica McInnis, Melissa Torres, Alan Roach, Katelin Roach, Jayme Arsola, Jessica Bean Nelson, Chesane Bramble, Talon Farley, and Kagan Deubner. He also leaves behind several great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces, including Melanie Adams of Beaumont. He is also survived by close family friends Mary and William Cawood.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clebern and Floy Bean, brother Wendell C. Bean, and his beloved wife and friend of 57 years, Linda Gay Laughlin Bean.

David will be remembered for his always-welcoming spirit, generous smile and creative approach to helping others through ingenuity and clever problem solving. His warmth and kindness made friends out of strangers easily, and he was treasured by many.
