Barbara “Jeannie” Jean Gonsoulin
Barbara “Jeannie” Jean Gonsoulin, of League City, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 in Houston, Texas at the age of 90. She was born on November 15, 1933 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Rodney and Lucille Bertrand.
The oldest of 3 children. Jeannie grew up in Opelousas, La. She graduated from high school in 1951 where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen. She then received a scholarship to college in voice and music. After attending college for one year, she and Charles Gonsoulin decided to get married and start a family. She sang in weddings. Was Ms. Yamette Queen, and Ms. Hadacol pageant contestant.
She married Charles Gonsoulin from Lafayette, La. in 1956. She and Charles started a family in 1957, moved around several times to support Charles’ career with Bristol Myers. While growing their family to 7. Five children in seven years kept Jeannie busy. They settled in the Clear Lake area. She eventually got her nursing certificate in 1973 and worked for many years at Clear Lake Hospital.
In their spare time, they enjoyed traveling in their r.v. Eventually selling their home and living in their r.v. for 3 years and visiting all 50 states.
In her later years, Jeannie enjoyed being involved in The Kemah Kronies, Welcome Neighbors, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rodney and Lucille Bertrand; her brother Clay Bertrand and sister-in-law Joyce Bertrand: her husband Charles Gonsoulin.
She is survived by her sister Catherine (Tootie) Bertrand; 5 children: Kenneth Gonsoulin (son), and his wife Joyce Gonsoulin; daughter Denice Waite; son Glenn Gonsoulin; daughter Barbara Gonsoulin Starr and husband Tom Starr; daughter Charlene Cibulski and husband Ray Cibulski; Also, her 8 grandchildren, Charlie Waite, Kristi Hatfield, Robin Fuller, Kyle Starr, Shelby Starr, Steven Starr, T.J. Lehrmann, Lee Lehrmann, and Lacey Berger. Also, 8 great grandchildren.
The Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00am with a Ceremony at 11:00am at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573.
Interment will take place at Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
She was an amazing grandmother and brought life to all around her. She is deeply missed.

An amazing Louisiana Girl! Loved seeing her at St. Mary’s she always had a smile on her face. I met her through her daughter, Denise Waite in a Mardi Gras Krewe! So much fun. The world has lost a special person today!Deepest sympathy to the family.
