Bonnie Jane Lancaster
Bonnie Jane Lancaster, 85, of Texas City, Texas, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Bonnie was born on February 27, 1939 to Clarence and Helen (Naron) Poston and was the oldest of four siblings.
Bonnie married Charles James “C.J./Jimmy” Lancaster on February 9, 1957. She spent the majority of their marriage as a stay-at-home Mom to two sons, Mark Allen and Terry Dean, and one daughter, Tami Denise, while also assisting him in various business ventures. They were happily married until his death in 1990. Bonnie joined the work force as a bank teller in the 1980s and worked until her retirement at the age of 65. She made many friends through the years working at the bank.
Bonnie loved to bake and cook for others. She made many home-cooked meals and always welcomed friends who happened to stop by. In her later years, she kept busy making sure neighbors and friends had special treats. Bonnie loved to sing and was an active member of the church choir at Highlands Baptist Church in La Marque, Texas, until it became too difficult for her to get in and out of the choir loft. That didn’t keep her from singing in the congregation with a great big smile on her face. She was faithful to attend when she could. An accident in 2019 kept her from being able to attend as frequently, but she always loved and supported Highlands. Bonnie was always proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would often talk of their accomplishments and was quick to show pictures when she could. Anyone who visited her home would quickly see many pictures of them all through the years.
In addition to her biological family, she adopted others and was just as proud of them and their accomplishments. Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, C.J., and her siblings, Frances Chapman, Wesley Poston and Faye King. She is survived by her children Mark Lancaster and wife Lisa, Terry Lancaster, and Denise Metzger and husband Lowell, She is also survived by her grandchildren Daniel Lancaster and wife Kelli, Dustyn Lancaster, Andrea Lancaster, Lauren Lancaster, and Cheyenne Kortz and husband Jake, her great granddaughter Lilli Lancaster. Bonnie was looking forward to welcoming her second great granddaughter Brooklyn due in August to Cheyenne. In addition to all the immediate family, she is survived by many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
A celebration of life service will be held at Highlands Baptist Church on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Highlands is located at 2908 Cedar Drive, La Marque, Texas. Those who knew Bonnie well know that she was a lifelong fan of the Houston Astros. If you would like to wear an Astros jersey or shirt, please feel free to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highlands Baptist Church Music Ministry.
So sorry for the loss of a beautiful soul
So very sorry for your loss. I know Janet loved her.
Mrs. Bonnie was like an aunt to me her and my mom were in the choir at Highlands. I cannot count how many after rehearsal or regular church services dinners we had over their house or her coming over to my mom’s hair salon and washing her car while she was getting her hair done. I still use her Chicken Tetrazzini recipe to this day. She is loved by everyone she met. She was one of the first adults I met that was cool with not calling her by her last name. Love you Mrs. Bonnie.
Rest in Peace Ms. Bonnie, you will always be remembered.
No matter what life threw at her, Aunt Bonnie always met it with a smile. She was happiest when she was doing something for somebody else. Besides the Astros she loved Girl Scout cookies. She would always buy a box or two from each of my two granddaughters.
Aunt Bonnie, we’ll miss your giant love, big smile and gentle soul.
