Brent Michael Salyer
Brent Michael Salyer, 73, of Alvin, TX passed away on June 20, 2024 at his home in Alvin. He was born on January 02, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter and Ann Salyer, Sr. Brent served his country in the U.S. Army in the 2nd Squadron 10th Cavalry 7th Infantry Armored, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and a Marksmanship Badge and was honorably discharged as a Sargent concluding being stationed in Korea. After traveling the country in his youth with his father in the Navy, Brent settled down in Alvin for over 40 years where he raised his children. Utilizing his various skills learned throughout his life he retired in 2008 as a Plant Operator from LyondellBasell after 29 years of service. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife Rita, and the opportunity to spend more time doing the things he enjoyed, most of which being hunting and fishing with his loved ones.
Brent is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ann Salyer, Sr.; son Ty Michael Salyer; brothers Walter Dean Salyer, Jr. and Stephen Barry Salyer; and grandson Trenton Godfrey.
Brent is survived by his wife of 17 years Rita Salyer; daughter Mary Salyer Walker and her husband John Walker; sons Matthew Brent Salyer and Kelsee and Roy Silkwood Cannon and his wife Candace; sister Sheri Wilson; grandchildren Jacobe Cross, Lilith Ty Walker, Gavin Walker, Presley Walker, Tyler Godfrey, Lilly Coffin, (on the way) Kashton Blake Salyer, and Luke Silkwood Cannon.
He was always the avid outdoorsman on the elusive chase of “muy grande”, or that 30-inch speck, although they always seemed to evade the man in chase. No matter the outcome of his success, there was always a lesson to be learned and shared with whomever would listen. With Brent, there was always an adventure in the making, whether that be a trip to the Guadalupe, or a drive to the Hill Country, it was always a memory in the making.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 26, 2024 at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday June 27, 2024 at Crowder Funeral Home – Pearland. On Friday June 28, 2024 family and friends are invited to come to the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. where we will prepare for a procession to Confederate Cemetery in Alvin for an inurnment of his ashes.
I have a ton of memories of Brent, but I just can’t seem to bring them to words today. I grew up, being friends with Matt and the family, for as far back as I can remember. Of course as we got older, we started to live our own lives, but still maintaining contact throughout the years. I can remember times at the Guadalupe, Lampasas, sneaking a camel wide, non-filtered and hoping I would not get caught. I can remember the jokes that Brent told around camp fires and the wrath of eating his jalapeño flavored chips, or leaving a glass in the sink, after drinking milk, and not washing it out. One thing I do know for a fact, Brent loved his kids. I always thought of Brent as a gentle giant, but not the kind you poked a stick at. I truly respected the man. Hearing of Brent’s passing hit a little differently for me. Maybe it is because I cherish to this day, the time I spent growing up with Matt and the family and even though we didn’t see or hang with each other thought the last several years, the times we did, it just felt like being around family. I am so sorry for the families loss. I will always be around if any of you need anything.
Brent was the love of Rita’s life and a wonderful brother-in-law to me & Greg. He & Greg talked non stop when they were together. I’m so glad he was in our lives & in our hearts he will always be. He will be dearly missed by all of our families.
We are so sorry for your loss . He was such a kind man . He will always be in our hearts . We will never forget the first time we came to Texas he welcomed us into your home made the best brisket we ever had & when we called he told Jason how to make his first brisket Y’all are in our prayers 🙏.michigan Cannon family

I’m so very glad he got to go to the Silkwood reunion. There’s one thing I know for sure, he loved Rita and his family. He will be missed by so many people. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. ❤️

I had the pleasure of working with Brent during our time at Lyondell. He was a strong, smart, steadfast man with a deeply caring heart for his coworkers.
I also had the pleasure of fishing trips with the man both in the bays near Galveston, Leguna Madre, and even Montana twice. Reflection on those times brings me warm memories.
The world is a better place due to his lifetime here. I am blessed to have known him.
