Robert Joseph “Bob” McKeon, 90, of Pearland, TX passed away on May 12, 2024 at his home. Bob was born December 21, 1933 to William and Cecilia McKeon in West New York, NJ where he attended St. Joseph of the Palisades High School.  Basketball was his passion, and in his time at “St. Joes” he played starting guard, leading the team to the state title in 1950.  He was selected to the Hudson County All Star team, and was inducted into the St. Joseph’s Hall of Fame in 2004. From a typo on a game program, he acquired the nickname “Bibby”, which followed him into adulthood.  He went on to play and coach basketball as a volunteer throughout his life, and was a mentor for many through his coaching.  His philosophy was that everyone got time on the court and inclusion meant more than winning. Bob was immersed in college basketball especially and used his negotiating skills to obtain tickets to Final Four games across the country.

After High School, Bob went on to serve his country in the US Navy.  He married Barbara Hochstrasser, became a father of seven children, and moved to Texas in 1969 to begin a career with Armco Steel.  He sold specialty stainless steel to distributors for the next 40 plus years.  He prided himself on his work ethic, and cherished the friendships he made through his career.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Cecilia McKeon; son James McKeon; sister Joan Batchelor; brothers Billy McKeon and Roddy McKeon. He is survived by his  children; Jerry McKeon (Denise) Teresa McKeon Roseland (Mark),  Karen McKeon Vincent, Susan McKeon, Chuck McKeon (Missy), Patricia Mckeon, Eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

Wednesday May 22, 2024 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 A.M. with Father Luis Garcia officiating. Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581.

Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.

Bob was a lifelong Catholic who supported the Dominican Sisters of Houston. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dominican Sisters of Houston at domhou.org
