Mary Carmen Dockery
Mary Carmen Dockery, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away on May 8, 2024, in Dickinson, Texas, at the age of 84. Born on November 1, 1939, in Bryan, Texas, to the late Pedro Garcia Ruiz and Mariana Martinez, her life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and generosity.
Mary, known to most as “Myna”, was a nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother whose positive spirit was infectious. Myna was a steadfast believer in God, always keeping faith at the center of her life. She believed in doing your best in all things and lived a life rich with joy and fulfillment. Her love knew no bounds, and her kindness was evident in her willingness to literally give the shirt off her back.
Throughout her life, Myna remained devoted to her family, especially cherishing the moments spent with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grand nieces and great- grand nephews. She was a tough mom to her three boys whom she raised with love, discipline, and a touch of humor, frequently discovering and removing unexpected ‘pocket critters’ during laundry days.
Myna is survived by her devoted husband of seven years, Donald Dockery, who stood by her side as a partner and confidante. Her legacy lives on through her sons William Blalock Gay IV, Marion Duke Gay and spouse Emma, and James Mark Smith; twin sister Mary “Lou” Dockery, and brother Edward Ruiz and his wife Donna. Her grandchildren McKenny Gay, Morgan Gay and her fiancé Mateo Suniga, and Austin Gay will forever cherish the memories and lessons they gained from their grandmother.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Mariana Ruiz; her late husbands, William Blalock Gay III and Preston Smith; daughter-in-law Cindy Gay; and her siblings Mary Helen Ruiz, Pete “Pierre” Ruiz-Strickland, John “Johnny” Jose Ruiz. Her beloved dog, Dakota Jane, also awaits her on the other side.
In her honor, there will be memorial service on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 2:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
