Charles Matthew Madigan

Charles Matthew Madigan, of League City, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at his home in League City at the age of 83.

He was born on February 19, 1941 in New York City, New York to Charles and Catherine Madigan.

Charles graduated from New York University, Class of 1946, College of Engineering with a master’s degree in chemical engineering. His 45 year career in the petrochemical industry specializing in ethylene technology gave him the opportunity to visit many parts of the world and experience many cultures.

He met his lovely wife Benedita Souza (Benie) in Brazil during one of his early career assignments. They were married in Brazil in 1976 and soon after moved to New York. Charles had many international assignments which enabled them to visit and live in countries like the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Siberia, Russia, Korea and Brazil. He attributed much of his success to Benie’s love, support and companionship.

Charles had a deep love of music. He often referred to music as his restful therapy. He loved ‘You Tube’ and would listen to all types of music; Russian Opera was his favorite.
He also was an avid sports fan. New York Giants, Yankees, Mets, Rangers and Knicks, he loved them all. Internationally he was a Manchester United Football Club (soccer) fan.
Charles was a devote Christian. He had a deep commitment to the Catholic faith, a fervent love for God, and a strong commitment and dedication his church, Queen of Angels.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Catherine.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Benedita (Benie). His sister Catherine Murray, brother Michael (Mickey) Madigan, nieces Elizabeth (Beth) Griffith and Launa Hodges, nephew William Murray and many other loving family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:00am at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4100 Highway 3, Dickinson, Texas 77539.

Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.

    I am so sorry for your great loss. I’m devastated by the news. My great regret is that it has been way too long since I’ve had the pleasure of visiting with Charles and Benie. Now, however, I can communicate with him at will. Please be assured of my many Rosaries, Holy Communions, and prayers for Charles.
