Charles “Charlie” Edwin Beard
It is with tremendous sadness that I announce Charles “Charlie” Edwin Beard beloved father, cherished family member, and much-loved friend to many, passed away on April 27, 2024, at the age of 80.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Wilma Beard, son Kenneth (Kenny) Beard, brothers Doyle and Vencie Beard, and his parents Maydelle and Willie.
Immediate survivors include his daughter Judy Beard and fiancé Willie Alcocer, and brother Michael Brown and family. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law Jeannie Worthington and family, Debbie Russell and family; numerous nieces and nephews; and many more extended family members and loved ones, especially his “game room”/“dog-track” family.
Charlie was born November 11, 1943, in Latexo (Crockett), Texas and moved to Texas City where he graduated from Texas City High School in 1962. He worked for Texas City Refinery, later Valero Refinery for over 30 years. After retirement, Charlie and Wilma, along with his brother Doyle and wife Joyce, and friends Frank and Jo Ann Schurwon enjoyed traveling in their RVs and visited many areas of the United States. In his later years, you could find him at several of his home-away-from home spots participating in his favorite “SPORT” (gambling)!!!!
Charlie was the most loving father and was a gentle, kind and caring man who made friends wherever he went. He met several dear and loving friends who have remained by his side throughout. The list of friends is long but I would like to specifically thank Max and Nancy Heard, Gene Miller and Yoko, Jimmy and Jerry Kramer, JD and Redbird Harrison, Carolyn and Morris Hill, and his “Game-Room Harem” – Brenda Pignataro, Nancy Hennigan, Judy Holmes, Gale DeVantier and Cindy Evans; although I do need to call out Cindy’s husband Scott, who Dad wanted to marry because of his cooking!!!
Special thanks and love to Cindy and John Ivy, Jeannie Worthington, Willie Alcocer, and Susan Lester, who I could not have made it without.
In his honor, there will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a local animal shelter or charity of your choice.
